Friday Night Smackdown – 1/8/10
Had a busy Friday night? Don’t worry, I watched my DVR and have the Smackdown results for you:
Video Package: The results of last week’s Beat the Clock Challenge.
Batista comes to the ring pissed off. “New year, but nothing’s changed. You still boo me. Teddy Long still is sticking it to me. Vickie Guerrero I appreciate what you did last week, but you’re not the GM…” He then demands that Teddy Long come to the ring.
- Rey Mysterio‘s music hits and he comes to the entrance ramp. He says to Batista, “You’re blinded by selfishness and greed. You’re nothing but an arrogant crybaby. Last week, I returned the favor for you interrupting my World Title match.
- Rey then calls Batista scared, and then Batista vows that he’s “going to make sure you don’t walk out of here!”

- Punk picks a guy out of the crowd named James and tells him there’s hope. Has him pledge to stop treating his body like a sewer. Tells him, “Straightedge is a commitment you don’t just try!”
- James says that he’s going to change, but Punk tells him there’s one more thing needed to be done…
- Gallows pulls out hair clippers, and Punk progresses to shave James’ head as a sign that he is serious about becoming straightedge. Then tells him, “From this day forward, you are stronger than any of these pathetic individuals!”

QUICK THOUGHTS:
Okay… after TNA has a steel cage match with no winner, WWE has a MAIN EVENT end with no winner. WTF. There wasn’t even a pin fall, count out, disqualification even rendered by the referee! This is just dumb. Anyone who says that TNA is dumb and WWE is so much better, just try to remember this instance. WWE did something just as, if not more dumb!
The straightedge intervention, or whatever WWE’s calling it was silly. It was a way to get Punk and Gallows more heat, which worked, but it was mainly a big time waster in my opinion, and I’m a huge CM Punk fan.
From the looks of it over the past few weeks, I’m guessing that Mickie James and Beth Phoenix are both going to challenge Michelle McCool at one point in time for the Women’s Title and I would like to see if these women could make a Triple Threat Match work. WWE doesn’t really give the women opportunities to shine in the ring, so I’ll be shocked if they allow it.
Wondering if the Jericho/Hart Dynasty angle is going to continue? The Hart Dynasty could be amazing if they were mentored by Jericho, and in the process it could continue Jericho’s beef with DX.
