TNA Impact! – 1/21/10
There’s an old saying, lightening never strikes twice, well, last night on TNA Impact, it did and there was a ton of venom spewing in the Impact Zone. Here’s how the show went down:
Video Package: Look back at what went down at TNA Genesis PPV.
Backstage: Limousine pulls up and out climbs 3 women, Ric Flair and TNA World Champion, AJ Styles.
Ric Flair comes to the ring with two of the lovely ladies and says, there are 3 reasons why I’m here: 1) “I hate Hulk Hogan and we’re going to resolve our issues here in TNA.” 2) “People asked me who’s the next Nature Boy? I say it’s not Kurt Angle. It’s not Sting. It’s AJ Styles.” 3) Ric insinuates about a sexual encounter he had with a random woman and then says that’s when Dixie Carter gave him his contract.
- Ric then introduces AJ Styles who comes out with the third women on his arm. AJ asks the crowd, “Do you have a problem with what you see in this ring? Well it doesn’t matter… I’ve done it all in this company. I’m the ONLY Grand Slam Champion EVER, but do I ever get any of the credit? NO! I’m not going to take it anymore!”
- Kurt Angle’s music hits and he walks to the top of the entrance ramp with a death stare locked on AJ. Hulk Hogan follows him up the ramp with microphone in hand. “At Genesis, I said that it would be Kurt Angle’s last chance in 2010, but considering your alliance, I’ve changed my mind… If you (Flair) get involved, I’ll strip AJ of the title and hand it to Kurt!”
Backstage: Mick Foley walks in the back door and destroys things on his way to find Eric Bischoff.
World Tag Team Title Rematch
British Invasion (Doug Williams & Brutus Magnus) vs. Matt Morgan & Hernandez (champions)
WINNERS: Morgan & Hernandez via pin fall after fellow British Invasion member, Big Rob, came to ring with his Feast or Fired case and gave it to Magnus. Magnus tried to hit Hernandez, but hit Williams instead.
- After match, Big Rob gets a tongue lashing from Magnus when out of the back comes Mick Foley with a chair who attacks all three of them.
- Foley looks straight into the camera and says, “Bischoff, schedule an appointment for me because I’m coming to see you later tonight, BANG BANG!”
Audio Clip: Bubba The Love Sponge calls Jeff Jarrett in the morning during his radio show to pester him about TNA things. Jarrett is pissed and says, “TNA was profitable before you, Hogan, and Bischoff showed up. You just go your way, and we’ll go ours!”
Backstage: In the office with Hogan & Bischoff. Hogan tells Bischoff, “first thing we have to deal with the Cactus Jack issue.”
- Bischoff says he’ll take care of it, but what about the other situation. Hogan says he’ll deal with it, just as Kevin Nash enters the room.
- Nash asks “is there something you want to tell me?” Hogan talks to him briefly about Scott Hall & Sean Waltman‘s antics at Genesis saying “the clowning has to stop.”
Backstage: Christy Hemme is with “Pope” D’Angelo Dinero who says, “I’ve scouted Whoopi. I’ve watched all the video tape. I predict 2 pimpslaps tonight. Welcome to Orlando, Jordan!”
Orlando Jordan vs. D’Angelo Dinero
WINNER: Orlando Jordan via pin fall after hitting a Eurinagi Face Buster.
Backstage: Christy Hemme asks Kurt Angle what is his response to the scenario from earlier. Angle replies, “justice was served when Hogan made this match!”
Audio Clip: Part Two of the Sponge talking to Jeff Jarrett. Bubba slams Jarrett for dying his hair, and Jarrett comes back with a comment about adding that comment to his lawsuit. Then goes on to defend TNA’s success before Hogan got there.
Backstage: Kevin Nash in the locker room is approached by Eric Young who wants to know if they’re on the same page anymore since The Band arrived and they have a tag match tonight together.
- Nash replies, “lets get things done tonight, and we’ll go from there.”
Video Package: History of the change in The Beautiful People and why Angelina Love left in the first place, up till last week’s return and beat down of her former friends.
Audio Clip: Part Three of the Sponge talking to Jarrett. Bubba says, “I know we have a civil war going on here in TNA…”
- Jeff cuts him off saying, “Yeah and who started it?!? The fans said at the PPV they don’t want Hogan and Bischoff’s change!”
- Bubba offers a one on one meeting with Hulk for Jarrett to figure things out, and Jarrett agrees only if Bischoff is NOT there!
Backstage: Bobby Lashley is talking in the office to Eric Bichoff saying, “I want to wrestle and forget about all the garbage that’s gone one. TNA is where my heart is!”
- Bischoff appreciates his bravery to admit he was wrong, and says he’ll set up a meeting with Hulk to try to fix things up.
Madison Rayne vs. Angelina Love
WINNER: Angelina Love via pin fall after hitting a Bicycle Kick to Madison’s face
- After match, Velvet Sky & Lacey Von Erich come out and beat down Angelina with their “Ugly Stick.”
Backstage: Bubba the Love Sponge is with The Band and asks them what were they thinking about at Genesis?
- Hall and Waltman think they’re doing fine and that by the end of the night, they’re going to have TNA contracts in hand.
Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff come to the ring to address the situation with The Band and say they’re not fooling around here in TNA.
- The Band walks out to the ramp and Hogan stops them, has security escort them out of the building because, “you don’t work here so hit the road! The clowning doesn’t work that way anymore!”
- Mick Foley comes out from the crowd area just off the entrance ramp and he restrained by security. He claims he just wants to talk with Bischoff and Eric says escort him to my office!
Backstage: Security is escorting Hall & Waltman out the back door. Kevin Nash tells them he’ll fix things.
Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs & Jerry Sags) vs. Kevin Nash & Eric Young
WINNERS: Nasty Boys via pin fall after Sags hit a pump handle slam on EY.
Backstage: The Nasty Boys are heading back to the locker room and they’re jumped by Team 3D with chairs.
Video Package: Mr. Anderson‘s TNA debut at Genesis.
Mr. Anderson comes to the ring and says, “I’m not here because of all your Twitters. I’m here because Hulk Hogan called me personally and offered me opportunities I wouldn’t get elsewhere!”
- Unbeknown to Mr. Anderson, Abyss sneaks up behind him and waits for Anderson to finish his speech on the microphone badmouthing things from Sunday’s match. When he goes into his “MISTEERRRRRR Anderson” trademark, that’s when Abyss attacks him!
Backstage: Abyss is apologizing profusely to Eric Bischoff who’s pissed that Abyss has ruined his show AGAIN!
- Bischoff walks away into his office where Mick Foley is being restrained by security. Foley wants to talk one on one and Bischoff allows the security to leave for a moment.
- Foley tells him directly, “I hate what you’re doing to my company… I will stop you by force if necessary!”
- Bischoff asks for the cameras to leave and shuts the door to his office.
TNA World Title Match
Kurt Angle vs. AJ Styles (Champion)
WINNER: AJ Styles via Screw Job. Referee, Earl Hebner called for the bell seconds after AJ reversed Kurt’s Ankle Lock into one of his own.
- Kurt Angle is pissed off to say the least. He was cursing like a sailor and there were censor beeps for all the expletives.
- Hulk Hogan walks out to ringside to calm down Kurt and Angle aims his tirade at Hogan threatening to quit. Then Angle spits on Hogan!
- During the break, Angle is still pissed and flips out on the way back to the locker room. He stops at the announce desk, steals a chair, and bashes it against some of the entrance ramp setup.
Eric Bischoff comes to the ring with a busted open, bloody forehead, grabs a mic on his way to the ring. He says directly into the camera, “Mick Foley, you are fired!”
QUICK THOUGHTS:
Well, I’m shocked to say the least, and not in a good way. Tonight’s episode of TNA sucked, period! 4 segments devoted to Bubba the Love Sponge. 3 segments dedicated to The Band. The Nasty Boys & Orlando Jordan, both Hogan cronies, get wins. And then, the coup de grace, the “Orlando Screwjob!” WHAT THE F**K?!?!? Are you serious with this crap?!? TNA, is Hogan really twisting your arm that hard that you use an angle that WWE did twice already, once back 12 years ago and once just this past year…? WOW! I’m just in shock of how stupid they are! This is really scaring me. Just when I thought things were going to be okay with Hall and Waltman being sent packing, this crazy shit goes down! DAMMIT!
The anger in the rivalry between Eric Bischoff and Mick Foley is just about the only thing that was great about this show. Foley has played the psychotic role well in the past and is excelling here, but where do they go now if he’s “fired”? Will he try to break in or will he come to watch the shows and jump the rail?
Oh and if I didn’t stress enough how low TNA has gotten, look how many matches there were… ONLY FIVE. The main event, that didn’t even finish, was the longest match of the night! Every other match was less than five minutes! If I go back to November of last year, when all of the “Hogan is coming to TNA” started blowing up, and I look at the match counts on TNA, I see cards with 7-8 matches that are NOT less than five minutes and just enough talking to get the story lines across. What TNA is looking like since January fourth’s LIVE Impact, is WWE’s kid brother and that was what I hoped and prayed would NOT happen! I guess I’ll have to see if TNA is doing this crap on purpose to become like WWE or if they’re doing this to make us think they’re trying to become like WWE and have some other crazy idea to shake things up. I don’t even know any more and I’m really scared to find out.
