Ring of Honor on HDNet – 1/25/10
The episode of Ring of Honor tonight, started with a look back at the Final Battle NYC event where Tyler Black and ROH World Champion, Austin Aries, went to a time limit draw! Here’s how the show went down:
ROH Executive Producer, Jim Cornette, announces both Black & Aries to come to the ring. He asks both of them if they have any comments on what went down at Final Battle.
- Black takes the mic first, “Fans know as well as I do, that you (Aries) cannot beat me. You ran, you hid, you did whatever you could to run the time out… At the end of the day, all I need is one more chance to prove you’re a punk bitch!
- Aries grabs the mic, “The ROH Title is still around my waist… I’m through with you! You DIDN’T get the job done. Tyler Black, you get NO REMATCH!”
- Cornette chimes in complementing both men’s in ring skills, but turns to Aries and calls him a gutless coward. He makes a match for Saturday, Feb. 13 where Black will take on Aries one more time for the ROH World Title… but if that match ends in a way that’s not a pin or submission, there will be three judges at ringside to determine the winner. Aries and Black will each get to name one of the three judges with Jim Cornette picking the third.
Cheech & Cloudy vs. Briscoe Bros. (Mark & Jay Briscoe)
WINNERS: Briscoes via pin fall after hitting a Death Valley Driver on Cloudy
- After the match, Kyle Durdan jumps in the ring for a word with the Briscoes, and they decide to call out Chris Hero & Claudio Castagnoli, The Kings of Wrestling, for their attack at Final Battle NYC. Instead of them, the American Wolves come out. They’re demanding their rematch!
- The Dark City Fight Club push past the Wolves and get in the ring going nose to nose with the Briscoes. Bedlam ensues and security is called to break them apart!
Video Package: Look back at Final Battle NYC, Kevin Steen‘s turn on El Generico.
Backstage: Kyle Durden is backstage questioning El Generico, but the masked man has no words for the crowd. You can tell his mind is not in the moment for his fight tonight.
Rasche Brown vs. Bobby Shields
WINNER: Rasche Brown via pin fall after hitting the Burning Hammer
- Mid match, Prince Nana & Ernie Osiris came out to scout the contest.
ANNOUNCEMENT: If you have an iPhone, there’s a new ROH App you can download for FREE!
Pick 6 Contenders Match
Kenny King vs. El Generico
WINNER: Kenny King via pin fall after hitting the Coronation
Jim Cornette, Austin Aries and Tyler Black come back to the ring to announce their picks for the judges.
- Austin Aries selects his good friend, Kenny King.
- Tyler Black selects someone who he respects, Roderick Strong, who’s rooting for Black b/c he’ll be the #1 contender if Black wins, on his word.
- Jim Cornette tells them both that HE will be the third judge to keep things honest.
QUICK THOUGHTS:
The hardest part for me to deal with when it comes to ROH is the fact that I don’t watch their PPVs and all of this build up for the Black/Aries rematch, I’ll never get to see the culmination of it all with my own eyes. While I’m excited that they’re going to have them fight again, for me being the casual ROH fan, only watching their shows on HDNet, it sucks to see that almost 1/4 of the show be dedicated to something I won’t see. I guess that’s a sign for me to get some extra income so I can buy some ROH PPVs or DVDs! 😀
Cheech and Cloudy put on a decent match against the Briscoes, but I knew the World Tag Champs were going to win. I didn’t forsee the melee that went on after the match, but THANK YOU ROH for keeping tag team wrestling alive!
Rasche Brown destroys another jobber! YAWN! I can’t wait to see him destroy someone legitimate… With The Embassy scouting him, why do I have a feeling that he’ll be destroying Necro Butcher soon…
King vs. Generico was a good match, and Generico played it off well that he was distracted by the Kevin Steen situation. I would love to see Generico bust into a match one day of Steen’s and beat the crap out of him! That would be awesome!
