TNA Impact – 1/28/10
This week’s edition of TNA Impact started with a look back at what went down last week. We’re anxiously waiting the fallout of the “screwjob.” Here’s what happened last night on Impact:
Eric Bischoff and Hulk Hogan come to the ring. Hogan says that we’ve got some business to take care of and calls out Mick Foley.
- Foley comes to the ring and Hogan tells him and Bischoff that we’re going to work things out between you two. Bischoff replies, “I already worked it out, he attacked me, and I fired him!”
- Foley comes back at Hogan telling him “If I did attack Bischoff, they would’ve had to carry him out on a plate!”
- Hogan tells Foley directly, “Work it out, or walk out!”
Backstage: Jeff Jarrett and Bubba the Love Sponge enter the building and they’re talking about Jeff’s meeting later with Hulk.
Backstage: Christy Hemme is with Mr. Anderson and calls him by his first name. He has to correct her and conducts the interview himself. He issues an open challenge to anyone in the back because he doesn’t have a match tonight, and he’s hoping that it’s Abyss.
Taz and Mike Tenay run down something called the 8 Card Stud Tournament where there’s going to be a series of qualifying matches. The winners of these matches will qualify for a tournament at the Against All Odds PPV (Think King of the Ring).
8 Card Stud Qualifier
Desmond Wolfe with Chelsea vs. Sean Morley
WINNER: Desmond Wolfe via pin fall after hitting the Tower of London
Backstage: Jeff Jarrett enters the office and tells Hogan & Bischoff that he wants to start anew and he says, “If I have to start at the bottom, I will!”
- Hogan agrees with Jarrett and then Bischoff has a brilliant idea and puts Jarrett in the main event against Mr. Anderson. Jarrett is a little reluctant because of his ring rust, but accepts.
Video Package: A look back at the “screwjob” on Kurt Angle last week during his match with AJ Styles.
Backstage: AJ Styles and Ric Flair are in their locker room with one hot chick. Flair is having AJ look at some brand new suits that he wants AJ to have. They talk about partying it up on a 30 day vacation and tell the girl to bring some of her friends with her.
8 Card Stud Qualifier
Daniels vs. Hernandez
WINNER: Hernandez via pin fall after hitting a version of a gut wrench slam
Mike Tenay is in ring to mediate a showdown between the Nasty Boys and Team 3D.
- Team 3D is pissed that the Nasty’s came back while they were in Japan, that they thrashed their locker room, and that they attacked them in the back. They then ask, “where the hell have you been the last 10 years?” They then say to the extent that they’ve been all over the world and have won titles in a ton of wrestling organizations.
- The Nasty’s say we’ve beaten tons of teams (listed them), and at the PPV we’re going to add Team 3D to that list.
Backstage: Christy Hemme is with The Beautiful People. Hemme asks about the return of Angelina Love and they’re not concerned with her and they’re over it.
Backstage: Bobby Lashley is in Eric Bischoff’s office and it looks like they’re going to discuss Bobby’s future with TNA… well, Bischoff tells him, “After talking with Hulk, YOU’RE FIRED!” Security restrains Lashley and pulls him out the door.
The Beautiful People (Velvet Sky, Lacey Von Erich & Madison Rayne) vs. Awesome Kong, Hamada & Tara
WINNERS: The Beautiful People via pin fall after hitting Hamada with the Ugly Stick when the ref’s back was turned.
- After the match, Kong chased Velvet Sky out of the arena, and Lacey & Madison attack Tara. Angelina Love comes in to save the day.
Backstage: Referee Earl Hebner is in Hogan’s office talking with him about the “screwjob.” Hogan asks him “why” and Earl originally gives him a BS answer saying he saw Angle tap out.
- Hogan looks him in the eye and says, “12 years ago you rand the bell and it wasn’t the right time, and you did it again last week. I want to know the truth!”
- Hebner tells him, “Bret didn’t screw bret, Vince didn’t, Shawn didn’t, I DID! I did it for the money! I got a check from Flair and I needed the money!”
- Hogan is pissed and suspends him for the time being.
Backstage: Flair and AJ Styles are chillin’ in the locker room when the one woman comes back with three friends. Now it’s time to party!
Backstage: Bubba the Love Sponge is with Mick Foley and Bubba tells him he’s worried about Mick’s position with TNA. Foley is still optimistic.
Kurt Angle comes to the ring and grabs a microphone. He’s confused, disappointed, and a little pissed off. “That match could’ve been the match you (AJ Styles) tell your grand kids about… you disappointed the boys in the back and the fans… you went from a hero to a punk ass bitch in one night!” Then tells him, “Flair is using you!”
- It was announced that he’ll get one more chance to earn a title shot against AJ in the form of an 8 Card Stud Qualifying Match.
- Hulk Hogan comes out to address the spit-take from Angle last week. He tells Kurt “if it ever happens again, you’re unemployed!”
- Kurt apologizes to the Hulkster and Hogan heads to the back.
- While his back is turned, Scott Hall & Sean Waltman jump the rail and attack angle from behind, and security arrives to the ring late as usual.
Backstage: Security escorts Hall & Waltman out the back door and they say, “We’ll see you next week!”
Brian Kendrick & Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelly & Chris Sabin) vs. Generation Me (Jeremy & Max) & Amazing Red
WINNERS: Kendrick and The Guns via pin fall after the Guns did all the work, Kendrick picked the bones of Amazing Red for the victory.
- After the match, The British Invasion came down to the ring and whoop up Red some more. It looks like Big Rob‘s going to cash in his Feast or Fired case for an opportunity at the X-Division Title, but Brutus Magnus is forcing Rob to give it to Doug Williams. Rob’s pissed.
TNA X-Division Title Match
Doug Williams vs. Amazing Red (Champion)
WINNER: Doug Williams via pin fall after hitting the Chaos Theory (roll up to a German Suplex with a bridge) to become the NEW TNA X-Division Champion.
Backstage: Foley and Bischoff are “hashing things out,” sort of… Foley harasses him about how he got cut open last week, and then tells a random story about his kid and a Chuck E Cheeze. The moral of the story was that Foley would rather clean up shit for a living than work for Bischoff.
- Bischoff threatens him by letting it be known that he’s got Abyss and Jeremy Borash‘s careers in his hands.
- Bischoff leaves the room, cameras follow, and he walks to AJ Styles’ locker room where he and Flair are partying with the ladies. Bischoff says, “Congratulations, we’re stuck with you! Bad news is, where you thought you had 30 days off, under this regime everybody has to be ready 24/7.”
Mr. Anderson vs. Jeff Jarrett
WINNER: Mr. Anderson via pin fall roll up after using a low blow while the ref’s back was turned.
- After the match, Anderson kicks the crap out of Jarrett hitting the Mic Check.
- Camera’s change to Bischoff in his office relishing the fact that Jarrett was just dismantled and says, “It’s going to be a long, hard climb to the top of my mountain!”
QUICK THOUGHTS:
Well, first off I want to say that this was a better show than last week by far! 6 matches, some were short, but for the most part pretty entertaining. The only thing that sucked is that we didn’t get to see AJ, Angle, or Samoa Joe wrestle. Sort of sad, but I’m wondering with this screwjob angle how they’re going to work things out. Joe’s due to get a title shot at Against All Odds and they’ve done nothing to hype it as of yet.
Again, the X-Division match winds up stealing the show… HOGAN are you even watching the matches that go on in the ring?!? Please continue to showcase the young talent that get the crowd jacked up!!!
The one weird thing that happened was in the main event. Jeff Jarrett came out to the ring with no entrance music like a jobber. It was sort of scary and kind of sad that someone that has the years of experience like Jarrett, is having to do an angle like this. I hope it ends up with Jarrett kicking the crap out of Bischoff, that’d be fun!
