ROH on HDNet – 2/1/10

After making their first appearance in L.A., California at Wrestle Reunion 4 this past weekend, Ring of Honor is back on HDNet for another weekly installment of their wrestling program.  Here’s what went down:

Video Package: Look back at last week when Jim Cornette announced a rematch between Tyler Black and Champion, Austin Aries.  Also shows the selection of the three judges at ringside to make sure the match has a winner.

Backstage: Jim Cornette announces that Tyler Black and Roderick Strong will compete tonight on Ring of Honor.

Rhett Titus vs. Delirious with Daizee Haze
WINNER: Delirious via pin fall after hitting the Bizarro Driver

Video Package: Roderick Strong talks candidly about why he became the judge for the ROH World Title Match on behalf of Tyler Black.

Video Package:  Look back at Final Battle where Kevin Steen turned on El Generico.

Backstage: Kyle Durdan is with Steve Corino who’s taking credit for Kevin Steen’s transformation.  He talks up Steen’s talent and says “Generico has been like a leach stuck on Steens back!”

• Steve Corino calls over Alex Payne who tells Corino that what Steen did was sick.  Steen walks in and assaults Payne.

Sonjay Dutt vs. Colt Cabana
WINNER: Colt Cabana via pin fall after hitting the Colt 45

Video Package: Tyler Black talks candidly about why he chose Roderick Strong as a judge.  He also talks about how tonight, they’re going to square off and he’s know that he can beat Strong.

Video Package: Clips from Final Battle when the Briscoe Bros. were attacked by the Kings of Wrestling.

Backstage: Shane Hagadorn & Sara Del Rey are with the Kings of Wrestling, Claudio Castagnoli & Chris Hero. “We went our separate ways, and we’ve both matured.  We’re stronger and better than ever!  The Kings of Wrestling are back, with a purpose, the ROH Tag Team Championship.”

In Ring: Kyle Durdan is with Shane Hagadorn and Prince Nana, and he asks how they brought about the partnership.  They talk about the money, the power, and the respect.

• Eddie Kingston comes to the ring.  He says, “I don’t care if they’re with either one of you.  All I want to hear is are they responsible for jumping me a few weeks ago, and where are they?”  He then threatens them!
• Erick Stevens & Joey Ryan jump Kingston from behind, and the Necro Butcher comes to his aid and clears the ring.

Video Package: The Young Bucks & The American Wolves battled each other back in November and they’ll take on each other again next week!

Pick Six Contenders Match
Roderick Strong vs. Tyler Black
WINNER:  Tyler Black via pin fall after hitting a super kick

• Mid match, ROH World Champion, Austin Aries, came down to the ring to get a better view of his competition.  He threw some popcorn at Tyler Black, and got super kicked for his trouble.
• Aries near the end of the match, jumped up on the apron, when he and Strong slammed heads after Black whipped him into the ropes.
• After the match, Aries attacked Black and threw a bunch of referees out of the ring who tried to stop him.  Strong comes to Black’s aid, and before Aries could suffer any serious damage, his friend, Kenny King pulled him out of the ring.

QUICK THOUGHTS:

Solid card tonight.  All of the matches were full length matches and had some great action.

The one thing that ROH is doing right now is trying to put a ton of story lines into a one hour show.  There were six different video packages tonight and three different interview segments.  I guess considering the circumstances it’s necessary.  They need to get across on the TV programming what happened on PPV that not everyone got to see.  Call me greedy if you want, but I would like more wrestling.  With the videos and stuff, you could’ve had another short or even a squash match.
