The NXT competition continues on SyFy. This week we had three great matches, so let’s not waste any more time. Here’s what happened:
Backstage: Matt Striker fills us in on some sort of format with how the winner of NXT will be selected. As the show goes along, the Pro determine who goes and who stays, but they cannot vote for/against their own NXT Rookie.
David Otunga with R-Truth vs. Darren Young with Straightedge Society
WINNER: Darren Young via pin fall after some sort of Full Nelson Suplex
- During match, CM Punk grabbed Otunga’s leg distracting him, allowing Young to gain the advantage for the win.
- After match, Otunga was pissed off and shoved R-Truth when he tried to help him up.
Video Package: A look at the history of Daniel Bryan and a look back at last week’s match between him and Chris Jericho.
Backstage: The doctor checks out Daniel Bryan and The Miz (his pro) walks in, “Congrats on your debut last week. You learned a valuable lesson, you’re dirt, you’re scum! You are NOTHING in the WWE… Even if you have a boo-boo, you still compete… I got you in a match against Wade Barrett, and that match is next.” Miz hits Bryan in the ribs where he’s injured. Doctor returns to take him up.
Backstage: During the commercial, Matt Striker gets a response from David Otunga on his match. “I was jumped. I was about to win and the Punk interfered…”
- R-Truth comes in and starts jawing at him about respect and it turns into a brawl until referees have to break it up.
Chris Jericho comes to the ramp and introduces his NXT Rookie, Wade Barrett.
Video Package: A look at the history of Wade Barrett as a bare knuckle fighter in Europe.
Daniel Bryan vs. Wade Barrett with Chris Jericho
WINNER: Wade Barrett via pin fall after a modified Fireman’s Carry/Alabama Slam
- After the match, Chris Jericho locks on The Walks of Jericho on Bryan.
- Bryan messed up a springboard move mid match… too bad this wasn’t ROH (You F****D UP!)
Video Package: Last week Christian & Heath Slater got a tag team victory.
- Earlier in the day, the two are in a weight room. Christian says to Slater, “I know you’re excited, but there’s a fine line between confident and over confident… we did win the match, but you have big things ahead of you.”
Backstage: Matt Striker with Justin Gabriel & Matt Hardy. Gabriel says, “I couldn’t have asked for a better mentor or as I like to call him, sensei.”
- Hardy responds, “He’s going to bring a lot of high flying maneuvers… kind of like a young Matt Hardy!”
Video Package: A look at the history of Skip Sheffield.
William Regal & Skip Sheffield vs. Matt Hardy and Justin Gabriel
WINNERS: Hardy & Gabriel via pin fall after Gabriel hit a 450 Splash on Regal
Backstage: Matt Striker with the NXT Rookies, “One of these men will win NXT…”
- Carlito walks in, takes a bite of his apple, and spits it in Heath Slater’s face… “That’s cool!” Slater’s pissed!
QUICK THOUGHTS:
Okay so week two of NXT, and I have to say that I enjoyed it very much this week. Maybe because last week was the first episode it just didn’t flow right. Last night if flowed well. It was just the right pace and had a good mix of backstage and in ring segments. Kudos for this episode WWE.
Daniel Bryan gets beat by Wade Barrett after taking Chris Jericho to the limit..? That’s just dumb. I know they’re playing up the injury, but c’mon! What garbage!
I’m excited to see that WWE is letting someone do a 450 Splash again! I don’t know why yet, but when I see Justin Gabriel in the ring for some reason my brain makes me think of TNA Superstar, Kazarian. Maybe I’m a little off my rocker, but that was my first thought. Gabriel has potential to be a really exciting star to watch.
