Ring of Honor – 7/5/10

After the fireworks of Independence Day, I was hoping to get some explosive matches from Ring of Honor on HDNet, and the main event didn’t disappoint.  Want to know what went down?  Then read on:

Video Package: Death Before Dishonor VIII highlights as the Kings of Wrestling defeated the Briscoe Bros. in a bloody battle.

Non-Title Match
Dark City Fight Club vs. Kings of Wrestling with Shane Hagadorn & Sara Del Rey
WINNERS: KOW via DQ after the Briscoes ran in and attacked them

  • Post match, the battle continued and security and other wrestlers from the back came out to break up the fight.  The Kings bailed out and ran for the locker room.

Video Package: Last week, Tyler Black squared off against El Generico, and their match was interfered with by Kevin Steen.

Backstage: Kyle Durden was hoping to have a word with Tyler Black, but instead Prince Nana walks in and tells him to have the guys in the back to roll a video tape.

  • Video Package: The Embassy‘s rivalry with the Necro Butcher and now they’ve paid him off and made him the “crown jewel of The Embassy.”
  • Nana is excited and is dancing around the interview area, and then dogs “Skullkrusher” Rasche Brown for not joining them.

Daizee Haze vs. Jamila Craft
WINNER: Haze via pin fall after hitting a Bridging Tiger Suplex

Video Package: Last week, Delirious & Jerry Lynn took on Kenny King & Rhett Titus hoping to get some retribution.

Backstage: Kyle Durden is with Christopher Daniels who talks about Davey Richards putting obstacles in the way of them facing off 1-on-1.  Daniels knows that inevitably that they’ll be across the ring from each other to figure out who the best in the world is.

Video Package: Paid message by The Embassy – Shawn Daivari talks smack about ROH management and how he’s now aligned himself with The Embassy.

American Wolves vs. Roderick Strong & Christopher Daniels
WINNERS: Wolves via pin fall after Davey Richards hit Christopher Daniels with a German Superplex

  • Post match, Strong/Daniels argue about the outcome of the match.

QUICK THOUGHTS:

I was slightly upset that the opening tag team match was brought to a screeching halt when the Briscoes ran in.  I don’t like when things like this happen.  It was a good match, and it was ruined because of a DQ.  I know in the scheme of things it helps the story line of the Kings vs. Briscoes, but I don’t like the idea that they have to hurt a match of another great tag team that really could’ve made a big impression for themselves on the tag team division in ROH.

The women’s match wasn’t bad, but considering it was a name versus a rookie, unless there was a run in, you knew that Haze was going to come out on top.

I’m still slightly pissed about the whole deal of Necro Butcher joining The Embassy.  It’s almost like selling your soul to the devil.  Necro has had such a rivalry with those guys, and now he’s one of them.  It just irritates the crap out of me.

Main event was a great.  It furthered the rivalry between Daniels and Richards.  It also furthered Strong’s turn towards becoming a whinny little bitch of a heel.  I look forward to the time when Daniels and Richards square off 1-on-1.
