Smackdown – 7/9/10
After The Big Red Monster was proven incorrect on his accusation of who attacked his brother The Undertaker, Kane is once again searching for the culprit. Who this time around will be the target of his vengeance? Find out right here:
Video Package: Two weeks ago, Jack Swagger attacked Big Show with an ankle lock submission and nearly broke it. Last week, Swagger did the same thing to World Champion Rey Mysterio.
Drew McIntyre is in the ring and he goes to speak, but Teddy Long‘s music hits, and he comes to the ring. He asks Drew about his deportation/Visa status and McIntyre says it’s been cleared up. Drew also is being proper in his speech when he tells “Mr. Long” that “it’s never too late to say I’m sorry.”
- Teddy calls him a liar and knows that Vince McMahon can’t save him anymore so he takes the time to embarrass Drew by making him get down on his knees to say good things about him. Drew reluctantly does it, in hopes of getting a spot in Money in the Bank.
- Teddy’s pleased that Drew complied, but tells him that he’s got to earn his spot in MITB by beating Kofi Kingston.
Money in the Bank Qualifier – Vickie Guerrero on commentary
MVP vs. Chavo Guerrero vs. Dolph Ziggler
WINNER: Ziggler via submission due to a sleeper hold
- Mid match, Chavo went away from the plan of allowing Ziggler to get the win, and Vickie was pissed at him. She took matters into her own hands as MVP started to mount a comeback by pulling the referee out of the ring to slow the match down.
Video Package: Promo for new wrestler coming soon, Alberto Del Rio.
Backstage: Trainers looking at Rey Mysterio and fill Josh Matthews in that Rey has a slight tear in his ankle. Rey’s upset about it.
- Jack Swagger busts into the training room and grabs Mysterio off the training table. Swagger locks the ankle lock submission on Rey and then drags him all the way to the ring side area by the stage. Rey is screaming his ass off. Big Show came out to force Swagger to run away as trainers tend to Rey.
Christian & Matt Hardy vs. Vance Archer & Curt Hawkins
WINNERS: Archer/Hawkins via pin fall after their Reverse DDT to Elbow Drop combo
- Mid match, Christian pulled Matt Hardy out of the ring over the top to the floor and bailed.
Money in the Bank Qualifier for McIntyre (Kofi already in)
Drew McIntyre vs. Kofi Kingston
WINNER: McIntyre via pin fall after hitting the Future Shock DDT
Video Package: Last week, Serena admits to CM Punk saving her on the day that The Undertaker was attacked proving that Kane has the wrong guy.
Backstage: Rosa Mendes is doing step aerobics as Punk and Luke Gallows are headed to the ring.
Video Package: Another promo for Alberto Del Rio.
CM Punk and Luke Gallows are in the ring. Gallows speaks chewing out Serena for showing a side of the Straightedge Society that no one was intended to see.
- Serena makes her way to the ring. She’s pleading with Punk that she made a terrible mistake when she got drunk, but she showed the video to save Punk from Kane, and hopes that he can forgive her.
- Gallows shows no remorse for her, but Punk decides to forgive her, and Gallows walks away pissed.
Cody Rhodes vs. JTG
WINNER: Rhodes via pin fall after hitting Cross Rhodes
Backstage: Josh Matthews is with Kelly Kelly who’s excited for her match at MITB with Layla for the Women’s Title, when Layla interrupts the segment. Layla teases Kelly for a moment, and Kelly gets pissed and throttles her. When that happens, Michelle McCool jumps her from behind.
Backstage: Josh has now caught up with the Big Show who’s really pissed off at Jack Swagger. He vows to put some fear into Swagger and to make him suffer.
Jack Swagger vs. Big Show
WINNER: Double Count Out
- Post match, Show is stalking Swagger up the ramp. Swagger kicks show in the leg and runs.
Backstage: Kane throttles Swagger and then drags him into a side room where he can interrogate him. Swagger says that he didn’t attack The Undertaker and that he has an alibi. Kane give him till next week to prove it, and “it better be a good one or be condemned to hell!”
QUICK THOUGHTS:
This was such a “BLAH” episode of Smackdown for me. Usually Smackdown doesn’t seem to have this much talking, but maybe it just seemed like there wasn’t enough actual bell-to-bell match time that just ruined this episode for me. There were officially five matches on the card, but two were glorified handicap matches and one ended in a double count out. Plus there was that segment where Swagger held an ankle lock on Mysterio for about five minutes or so.
All in all, not really what I like to see from Smackdown. They usually are the show that’s a little more wrestling based story line than actual talking based… Sad effort.
