Ring of Honor – 6/12/10
The HDNet original that is Ring of Honor Wrestling is back again, and they’ve hit us in the face right off the bat by starting the show off with one of the fan favorites of the ROH faithful now aligned with his past enemies. Read on to see what happened last night:
Video Package: Last week, Necro Butcher betrayed the fans, and joined his most bitter rivals, The Embassy.
Prince Nana & Ernesto Osiris come to the ring to rant about the glory of The Embassy. They claim that they were the only kind and caring people that reached out to the Necro Butcher to help him and his family in their time of need.
Butcher’s Rules
Necro Butcher with The Embassy vs. Bobby Beverly
WINNER: Butcher via pin fall after delivering a Tiger Driver to Beverly on a chair
- Post match, Butcher and The Embassy beat down Beverly some more.
Video Package: Delirious & Jerry Lynn squared off against Kenny King & Rhett Titus (All Night Express) with Austin Aries in their corner. They looked to get some revenge for all pain and damage the heels have inflicted, but no revenge was exacted.
The ROH TV Champion, Eddie Edwards, and his manager, Shane Hagadorn, come to the ring. Edwards is going to have another 10-minute Hunt to find a worth competitor who can earn a title shot against him.
- His competitor, Andy Ridge, comes to the ring, and Edwards dogs him a little bit before hitting him in the head with the microphone.
10-Minute Hunt
Eddie Edwards with Shane Hagadorn vs. Andy “Right Leg” Ridge
WINNER: Edwards via submission after putting Ridge in the Achilles Lock
Backstage: Kyle Durden is with Austin Aries & The All Night Express. Aries talks a little smack about Delirious. King dogs Jerry Lynn for coming back to ROH after he was put on the shelf. Titus then talks crap about Tyler Black.
Jim Cornette is in the ring, and he says that Roderick Strong has demanded some time to speak, and he has granted it.
- Strong comes to the ring surprised that Cornette was going to actually give him the time since Strong feels strongly about how everyone in ROH is out to screw him over.
- Strong then introduces his new friends, Josh Raymond, Christian Able & Truth Martini of The House of Truth. Martini speaks saying that he’s taken in Strong as one of his own to try to coach him in a direction where Strong can be content and confident knowing that everyone else around him is responsible for the issues that surround him.
- Cornette looks confused…
Video Package: A look at the rivalry between Kevin Steen & El Generico that has now added Generico’s friend, Colt Cabana, and Steen’s mentor, Steve Corino, into the fray.
6-Man Tag Team Match
Tyler Black, Jerry Lynn & Delirious vs. Austin Aries & All Night Express
WINNERS: No contest as the referee lost control of the competitors
- Post match, Kevin Steen comes out and hits Tyler Black with a Package Pile Driver. (Steen faces Black in less than two weeks in Chicago for the ROH World Title).
QUICK THOUGHTS:
This is one of the worst ROH on HDNet shows that I’ve seen. I’m not going to sugar coat this one. Two job matches. One stupidly long promo that to me makes no sense with Roderick Strong and some guy who I had never seen before (I’ve only watched ROH on HDNet shows). I was bored out of my mind for the first half of the show. The main event salvaged the night somewhat… That was until the match ended in a no contest and there was a run in by Kevin Steen.
That’s the only major flaw I see in ROH. They have some great matches period, but one thing that tends to happen more often than it should are run ins in those matches. Had that match maybe ended in a stolen victory by Aries on Black and then he’d gotten jumped by Steen to promote the match, I probably wouldn’t have cared so much. True, the match DID NOT end in a DQ because of the run in, but I’m still disappointed with the way the show finished. There was no real build up as to why Steen attacked Black until the little graphic popped on the screen saying that they’re squaring off in two weeks.
