Ring of Honor – 8/9/10

Last night on Ring of Honor the ROH World Champion took on one of the founding members of the company for the first time ever!  Would the match live up to the hype?  Find out what went down right here:

Video Package: ROH World Champion, Tyler Black, takes on “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels for the first time ever.

Jim Cornette is in the ring with Tyler Black.  Cornette gives Black a chance to talk about his match tonight.  Tyler says that he’s going to prove to all the doubters tonight that he is the best… He’s also a little pissed off at how some people hate him for no reason at all and tells them that they can kiss his ass.

Butcher’s Rules Match
Necro Butcher with Prince Nana & Ernesto Osiris vs. “Skullkrusher” Rasche Brown
WINNER: Brown via DQ after the rest of The Embassy came to the ring and attacked Brown

• Post match, referees and most of the ROH locker room came out to brawl/break up the brawl.

Backstage: Kyle Durden is with Christopher Daniels and asks him about Tyler Black’s comments from earlier in the show.  Daniels responds that tonight may not be for the title, but it is for pride and respect.  Daniel believes that Black’s comments were disrespectful towards him.

Video Package: At Death Before Dishonor VIII, Roderick Strong won a gauntlet match to earn himself a title shot, any time.  Next week, he’ll put that on the line against Davey Richards.

Video Package: More Death Before Dishonor clips are shown of Tyler Black taking on Davey Richards.  Richards in a sit down interview comments on the match and coming up just shy of victory.

• Also comments on Roderick Strong and his turn, now following Truth Martini.

Colt Cabana vs. Alex Anthony
WINNER: Cabana via submission after locking on the Billy Goat’s Curse

• Post match, Kevin Steen to the ring side area with a chair distracts Cabana as Steve Corino jumps him from behind with a chain and chokes Colt out.
• Referees try to break things up, but it’s not until El Generico comes out does the assault come to a stop.

Video Package: ROH has the best tag teams in the world, but on 9/11 at Glory By Honor one more joins ROH, Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas.

Backstage: Kyle Durden is with Roderick Strong and Truth Martini.  Truth spouts off about his philosophies.  Strong jumps in and comments about how next week Davey Richards is going to be his stepping stone.

Non-Title Match
Tyler Black vs. Christopher Daniels
WINNER: 20-min Time Limit Draw

• Post match, Roderick Strong & Truth Martini to the ring.  Strong saying he wants his title match now.
• Davey Richards comes out and reminds Strong about their match next week for the title match opportunity.
• Daniels grabs a mic and says that he’s the only one here that hasn’t been pinned by Tyler Black.

QUICK THOUGHTS:

The rivalry between Rasche Brown and The Embassy is blowing up.  More and more now, The Dark City Fight Club are getting involved (helping Rasche), and I believe that coming up soon will be one big elimination style match between the two factions.

The Colt Cabana match was a total squash, but with Colt you know you’re going to get a good laugh out of it, and “Boom-Boom” didn’t disappoint the fans.

Main event was pretty good.  While it’s somewhat disappointing when there’s no winner, I think that sometimes bookers don’t take advantage of time limit draws enough.  Matches that end without a winner usually spawns a rematch that could be hyped up even more and get more eyes on the product.
