WWE Smackdown – 8/13/10
Going into SummerSlam, things have been pretty chaotic over on Smackdown, and the WWE stars have been on notice that the World Champion is looking for the one who attacked his brother, The Undertaker. With this being the last episode before the PPV, who would gain some advantage going into this Sunday? Find out here:
Vickie Guerrero is in the ring and introduces her boyfriend and new Intercontinental Champion, Dolph Ziggler.
- Dolph comes down to the ring and Vickie sings his praises. Dolph than takes the mic to thank Vickie for all that she’s done to get him to this point in his career. Vickie then claims that they’re going to celebrate in Tahiti.
- Kofi Kingston comes running down and beats the crap out of Ziggler. Referees are called down to stop him.
- Teddy Long comes out and calls out Vickie & Dolph telling them they’re not going anywhere. Dolph is going to face Kofi at SummerSlam and for tonight Dolph will take on Rey Mysterio.
- Vickie doesn’t like that so because she’s the consultant to Smackdown, she tries to make a match between Kofi and Kane. Teddy’s not about to let her do it, but Kofi wants the match so he lets it slide.
Video Package: Kane and Rey Mysterio’s rivalry over the past month since Money in the Bank when Kane won the World Title.
Non-Title Match
Kane vs. Kofi Kingston
WINNER: Kane via pin fall after hitting a Tombstone
- Mid match, Kofi tries for Trouble in Paradise on the outside and accidentally kicks the ring post.
- Post match, Kane cuts promo reiterating his stance about Rey Mysterio being his brother’s attacker.
- Rey comes out and tells us why he believes that it’s all a cover up and that Kane had the motive and the time to attack The Undertaker.
Backstage: Drew McIntyre telling “Dashing” Cody Rhodes that he’s softened up Christian so if Rhodes can’t beat him, he won’t be dashing… he’ll be disappointing.

Handicap Match
Big Show vs. Derek Werley, Jody Reese & Fernando Vega
WINNER: Big Show via pin fall after hitting Reese with the KO Punch
- Mid match, Straightedge Society to the ramp to scout the match.
- Post match, Luke Gallows comments that they’re not impressed by Big Show. CM Punk then wonders out loud who gave Gallows a mic..? Then cuts promo on Big Show saying that these young guys have nothing on the S.E.S. and that at SummerSlam they’re going to be playing a symphony that sounds like broken bones.
Matt Hardy vs. Drew McIntyre
WINNER: McIntyre via pin fall after hitting the Futureshock DDT
- Mid match, McIntyre puts Hardy’s foot between the ring steps and stomps down. Hardy removes his boot to show blood seeping through the sock.
Jack Swagger to the ring. Dogs the crowd and then winces about being screwed over for the World Title, being thrown into the Gulf of Mexico, and having to watch his dad get beat up by Kane… and for not being in the World Title Match at SummerSlam.
- Interrupted by MVP who says that no one cares about Swagger’s problems. MVP reminds him that this happened last year and then he beat him at SummerSlam.
- Swagger snaps and cracks MVP with the microphone. Then throws him into the guard rail.
- During commercial, Teddy Long makes a match.

- Post match, Kane tries to attack Rey, but Rey gets the best of him. Kane actually gets knocked back into the casket. He flips out and backs up the ramp.
QUICK THOUGHTS:
This edition of Smackdown took place in my neck of the woods in San Jose, California. I actually know two of the wrestlers who jobbed to the big show. Derek Werley is “The Boss” Derek Sanders from All Pro Wrestling & Pro Wrestling Revolution, and Jody Reese is actually “Big Country” Jody Kristofferson from Big Time Wrestling and All Pro Wrestling. If you recognize the last name, yes he is related to actor/musician Kris Kristofferson.
Albeit that I really hate Cody Rhodes, this “Dashing” persona really does suit him and give him some personality to try to act out. Normal Cody Rhodes was just a whinny bitch with a lisp, but “Dashing” Cody Rhodes has an attitude about him that wasn’t there before.
Sick of Dolph Ziggler and Vickie Guerrero. Wish that someone would lock her in a broom closet and then have WWE leave for the next town.
I’m worried as to how SummerSlam will play out for Mysterio vs. Kane… Don’t know if all this hype is really going to be worth the match.
