Last night on Ring of Honor, two worthy competitors fought for the opportunity to face Tyler Black and get a ROH World Title shot.  Would Roderick Strong or Davey Richards prevail?  Find out the results right here:

Video Package: Roderick Strong vs. Davey Richards tonight, both are worthy competitors, but only one can get a ROH World Title shot.

Rhett Titus with Austin Aries vs. Jerry Lynn
WINNER: Lynn via pin fall roll up

  • Post match, Kenny King comes out from the back and attacks Lynn from behind.  Looks like it’s going to be a 3 on 1 beatdown situation, but Delirious comes out with a chair and everyone scatters.

Backstage: Kyle Durden is with Steve Corino & Kevin Steen and asks them about why last week they attacked Colt Cabana with a chain.  Corino says that the chain is symbolic of he and Kevin’s bond, and it’ll be what breaks Cabana and El Generico.

  • Steen adds that the chain is also a symbol of burden, how he carried El Generico for years.

El Generico vs. Erick Stevens with Prince Nana & Ernesto Osiris
WINNER: Generico via DQ after Steen/Corino attacked him with chain

  • Post match, Colt Cabana came out to help his friend.  Steen/Corino bail out.

Backstage: Kyle Durden is with Davey Richards & Shane Hagadorn and asks about his tough loss to Tyler Black and tonight’s match for a title shot against Roderick Strong.  Richards says he’s learned a lot from his loss to Tyler and that he’ll use what he’s learned to destroy Strong on his way to the ROH Title.

  • Interrupted by Truth Martini (Strong’s life coach) who says that Roderick has Tyler Black’s number and that Richards’ representation has been lying to him.  (Hagadorn takes exception and gets in Truth’s face)
  • Richards tells Shane to stay in the back for the match, and threatens Truth not to get involved in the match up.

Video Package: At Glory By Honor, Kings of Wrestling take on Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas.

Video Package: Kevin Steen & El Generico have become ROH’s most brutal rivalry, and at Glory By Honor they and their allies will square off in a Double Chain Match. El Generico & Colt Cabana vs. Kevin Steen & Steve Corino.

Video Package: King of Wrestling talk about themselves, their history together as champions, and their upcoming match against Benjamin & Haas.

Christian Able & Josh Raymond with Truth Martini vs. Mike Sydal & Aiden Chambers
WINNERS: Able/Raymond via pin fall after hitting a double team face buster

#1 Contender Match
Roderick Strong with Truth Martini vs. Davey Richards
WINNER: Strong via pin fall after a big boot to the face of Richards

  • Before match, Richards tells Strong to send Truth to the back.  After a pep talk, Truth leaves.
  • Mid match, referee gets pulled by Strong into a Richards kick.  Strong’s manager, Shane Hagadorn runs down and grabs hold of Strong.  Richards throws Strong aside and shoves Hagadorn off apron (distracted).  Leads to Strong victory.

Video Package: The Embassy takes on Rasche Brown, Grizzly Redwood & Dark City Fight Club next week.

QUICK THOUGHTS:

Once again ROH ruins a great main event by having the finish come down to a distraction from outside interference.  The match was back and forth, and kept me connected to the action, but having the poor finish irritated me.  I’m guessing this means that in the coming weeks that Richards and Hagadorn are going to have a falling out..?

The tag team match was pretty much a squash, so there isn’t much to talk about with it.

Generico vs. Stevens was decent until the outside interference, but I understand that outside interference because it puts over the chain match more at Glory By Honor.

The opening match wasn’t bad at all.  I just wish it didn’t just come to an abrupt pin fall off a roll up.  I would’ve liked to see Jerry Lynn get a definitive victory over Titus as a way to get under the skin of Austin Aries and Kenny King, which causes the post match attack.
