WWE: Babyfaces Who Need to Be Pushed in Daniel Bryan’s Absence
Kofi Kingston
If WWE isn’t going to turn Kofi Kingston heel, as I suggested they should in a previous column, then they should be pushing him to the sky.
Another run with an upper mid-card title would be fun to see, but Kingston needs a serious feud that requires his serious side to shine through.
Kingston has never been better than when he feuded with Randy Orton. Why not give it another try?
Kingston remains one of the most popular wrestlers in WWE, more due to his unparalleled athleticism and showboat style than anything else. What has always held him back—besides the company’s unwillingness to fully push him—has been the overzealous good guy persona.
Fans love entertaining underdogs and high-flying athletes, but without a mean streak to balance it all out, Kingston is just another fan-friendly superstar with no true substance.
Kingston is more than capable of taking the ball and running with it, but he needs the proper feud to set the groundwork for a character evolution.
Eliminating the jumping clothesline would be progress, but Kingston must find an opponent with whom he can develop his character in a more personal battle.
Re-igniting his rivalry with Orton is the perfect place to commence the massive push.
