Beyond the rumors of Sting wrestling for WWE or CM Punk’s return, the one rumor that has been most prevalent in the WWE for much of this past decade is the one that has Stone Cold Steve Austin returning to the ring for one more match.
Austin was once rumored to be returning to face CM Punk, and the latest, has Stone Cold preparing for one more match that could potentially take place at Wrestlemania 31.

On WWE’s end, the company is planning on pushing Stone Cold’s merchandise.
"[Daily Wrestling News]To be more specific, WWE actually told their distributors to go into heavy production of Austin merchandise. This is seen as a sign that Austin could be back on WWE TV in some form or there will be at least a renewed push of his merchandise."
The push of Austin’s merchandise began when his podcast was hyped on Monday Night Raw. For Austin, the Texas Rattlesnake is open to returning for one more match.
"[Daily Wrestling News]The story remains that Austin is open to returning if the money and creative plan is right."
There are a number of directions that WWE could take Austin’s return for one more match.
We recently speculated that Austin could be booked with Dean Ambrose for Wrestlemania 31. Ambrose seemed to pay homage to Austin this past Monday when the Lunatic Fringe opened Raw with a protest until Seth Rollins came down to the ring. During the protest, Ambrose grabbed a chair and sat in the middle of the ring–similar to when Austin called out the NWO. Ambrose also mocked to the fans that he was calling for a beer.
Ambrose would be an ideal candidate for Austin to be booked with.
Though, another candidate would be Bray Wyatt. WWE currently has no plans for Wyatt and there has been some debate over whether or not Wyatt should be turned into a face character. Though, WWE has yet to fully go forward with those plans. If WWE decides to keep Wyatt as a heel, a booking with Austin would be great.
The booking would start when Austin returns to WWE programming–presumably on a Monday Night Raw in February–and cuts a promo. Wyatt along with Erick Rowan and Luke Harper would then interrupt the promo and attack Austin. Austin and Wyatt would then go back and forth in the weeks leading up to Wrestlemania with the result being Austin putting over Wyatt. Such a moment would give Wyatt a signature victory, something he should have notched at Wrestlemania 30 against John Cena.
