Cesaro vs Roman Reigns will be a match on tonight’s WWE Raw match card. Why could it be the most intriguing match of the year for WWE?

In the second round of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship tournament, Cesaro vs Roman Reigns will be the marquee match of the four bouts. They will go head to head tonight on Raw for a place in the semifinals, which will likely take place at WWE Survivor Series next Sunday.

This matchup puts two of the more hotly-debated WWE stars in the ring at the same, which is sure to draw a big reaction from fans. Cesaro is popular among fans, but arguably doesn’t receive the push his talent warrants. Reigns isn’t as popular among the WWE Universe, but arguably receives a push that exceeds his talent. That’s exactly why this may be the most intriguing match of the year in WWE.

Yesterday, WWE posted a poll on their website about who they want to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship tournament out of the remaining participants. As of this writing, Cesaro leads the group with 37-percent of the votes. Reigns is second at 24-percent. So while Roman has his supports, the Cesaro Section is strong.

Reigns is the heavy favorite to win this match and the tournament when it concludes at Survivor Series. He was named the No. 1 Contender to Seth Rollins before the torn ACL and MCL and was seen as the favorite to take the title. This is all part of WWE’s plan to push him to the top.

However, this match tonight may be the most intriguing of the year because of the fans. They love Cesaro on TV and on the poll we noted above. They want to see him get a title reign and get the arguably warranted main event push because of how good he is in the ring. WWE must be aware of the fan’s desire by now and tonight will be the biggest test of them all to see how much the company listens.

If WWE puts Reigns over Cesaro tonight, there will be backlash towards the product on social media. It would be naive to think otherwise. Fans will feel they aren’t being noticed and will go off-the-wall, similar to what they did with Daniel Bryan from 2013 to early 2014. This will continue through the finals match for the title at Survivor Series, where fans would boo Reigns if he made it to the last match. WWE is likely aware of this and may be prepared to ignore the crowd, similar to how they piped out the negative noise from last week’s episode of Raw in Manchester, where the live crowd booed Reigns when he denied Triple H’s offer. However, we saw on TV that he was cheered for this. It’s a possible early sign of things to come for the former Shield man.
