We take a look at the episode of WCW Monday Nitro from Jun. 10th 1996.

The show opens with the customary over the top pyro, this just wouldn’t be WCW without it. We have commentators Tony Schiavone and Larry Zybzsko talking about what you can expect to see during tonights show, followed by a bit of background of what we saw in the last couple of weeks from Scott Hall/Razor Ramon.

Things are about to pick up.

Booker T vs. Scott Steiner

Result Scott Steiner wins via pinfall

Rating 2.0 out of 5 stars

A battle of 2 men who in the following years will become a massive part of the WCW main event scene. Both are still seen as tag team specialists here but this is a good match.

Booker gets the better of his opponent with some early power before Steiner takes over. A couple of big suplexes leave Booker in trouble before a clothesline over the top takes the action to the outside.

Back in the ring Booker hits the axe kick and locks in a choke. A big cross-body block from the top sees Booker get a 2 count, Steiner recovers with a reverse DDT. The Steiner’s trademark belly to belly suplex takes Booker down, he recovers with kicks for another 2 count.

Booker misses a swan dive from the top, Steiner hits a belly to belly for the 3 count and the win.

Carl’s Take: Both these men, at this time are known as tag wrestlers, this was a solid match between them. Power vs power but a sign of things to come in about 4 years time.

Steiner is interviewed by Mean Gene Okerlund on the ramp after the match. Scott rants about the Steiners being the best team in the world.

Debra McMichael comes out to interrupt, she’s terrible on the microphone. She takes about Steve McMichael and Kevin Greene’s match with Ric Flair and Arn Anderson which is coming up at the Great American Bash. This feud is a big part of the current product in WCW, even with Flair/Anderson involved it’s not worth the effort. Watching this interview, you’d never know this woman would go on to manage the likes of Jeff Jarrett and marry Steve Austin.
