WWE Royal Rumble 2016: Kevin Owens Should Win the Royal Rumble Match
By Jay Sichler
Kevin Owens winning the Royal Rumble would be a smart and original move for the WWE.
Over the last few years, the WWE has angered its fans with the winner of the Royal Rumble match. Instead of picking wrestlers that the fans have wanted WWE has done the opposite. The last few years the Royal Rumble winner has left the match with a sea of boos from the crowd. Instead of going with shocking or unpredictable WWE has done the opposite the last few years. From John Cena, Batista and last year Roman Reigns WWE has made it its job to upset the fans at the January event. They can change of all this though for the 2016 edition of the Royal Rumble.
The popular consensus going around that it will be Brock Lesnar who will win the upcoming event. While this outcome likely won’t get the boos that prior events have had it is still a very predictable outcome. If this was to happen the main event for WrestleMania would be the same as last years Brock Lesnar vs. Reigns.

While the first time these two clashed gave us a decent main event the chances of it being good again are not strong. You can look back when The Rock and Cena main-evented back to back WrestleMania’s (28 and 29). The second time they clashed was nowhere close to being as good as the first match was.

If WWE was to do Lesnar vs. Reigns at WrestleMania it would continue their trend of boring and predictable booking when it comes to the WrestleMania main event. The way they can end this trend is by having Kevin Owens win the Royal Rumble.
Owens has proved ever since he was down in NXT that he was going to be a star. After dropping the Intercontinental Championship to Dean Ambrose earlier this month at TLC, Owens has cut promos like a main eventer. Owens has gone from being a cowardly heel to more of a take no name butt kicker. Owens has shown early signs of being the next big star in the company (possibly showing shades of a young Stone Cold).
Having Owens win the Royal Rumble would be both unexpected and exciting. Brock winning would continue WWE’s trend of putting over part-timers over regular everyday superstars. Owens winning would show a new trend and would show WWE is ready to utilize their everyday stars.

Owens vs. Reigns would show that WWE is ready to invest in new homegrown talent (both started down in NXT). The two could have a great main event at WrestleMania and the two could usher in a new era in WWE. If KO wins the Royal Rumble, WWE fans would finally get a shocking and deserving winner at the big event.
