With Bret Hart and Ric Flair at ringside, Charlotte defender her title against Natalya tonight at WWE Payback.

Sunday’s match at WWE Payback between Charlotte and Natalya has been in the works for a couple of years, stretching back to 2014 when they faced one another in the NXT Women’s Championship tournament. That match, which also had Ric Flair and Bret Hart at ringside, is the one that many say set Charlotte on her path towards WWE gold.

Now Charlotte is the WWE Women’s Champion and very much a heel, while Natalya is the seasoned veteran looking for her first taste of gold in six years. With Ric Flair and Bret Hart at ringside reigniting their long-running family feud (Hart defeated Flair for his first WWF title), could we see the championship change hands?

“The Dirtiest Player in the Game” accompanied the champion, Charlotte! Should we call her the “Dirtiest Daughter”?

To a roar of cheers, Natalya was accompanied down to the ring by her uncle, Bret “The Hitman” Hart, miraculous considering his recent bout with cancer.

Charlotte is ready, showing off her physique and the brand new Women’s Title.

Charlotte seemed more concerned with showboating at the beginning of the match, just like her Daddy used to do.   Why win when you can humiliate your opponent, too?

But copying Daddy has its drawbacks, like the classic Flair flip right into a German suplex, leading to a “Suplex City” chant! Is Natty the Brock Lesnar of the Women’s Division?

Charlotte has had a counter for everything the veteran Natalya could throw at her, right up until this amazing hurricanrana on the floor.

What makes Charlotte the most athletic Flair to ever enter the squared circle? Things like this.

Charlotte has had the upper hand nearly throughout the entire match. Is it time for some Natural Selection?

Really? A Montrol Screwjob callback? That’s right, Charlotte locked in the Sharpshooter, taking Hart’s signature move, and suddenly referee Charles Robinson calls for the bell, scoring her the submission victory!

After what’s already being dubbed the “Chicago Screwjob”, the Harts got a measure of revenge. Finally, Hart got in on the action!

THAT is what tapping out really looks like!

But it’s still Charlotte walking away as Women’s Champion, and that’s all that matters. Are we seeing the return of Charles “Little Naitch” Robinson? Sure looks like it.

Travis’ Thoughts: Decent match that showed Charlotte to be dominant even if it’s through underhanded tactics, and Natalya loses noting in defeat since nobody thought she’d win. It’s surprising that Hart actually got physical given all he’s been through, but the crowd ate it up. Charlotte is likely moving on to a match with Sasha Banks, while Natalya continues as a WWE ambassador of sorts.
