WWE SummerSlam 2016 Results: Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte Video Highlights

Take a look at the action from the WWE Women’s Championship match at WWE SummerSlam.

Sasha Banks and Charlotte have quite the history. Dating back to their time in NXT, the women have developed a rivalry that has transcended to the WWE main roster. Now, they face off in their most high-profile match yet, battling for the WWE Women’s Championship at WWE SummerSlam.

Despite entering the WWE main roster at the same time, Sasha and Charlotte have had different roads to success. Charlotte’s course was immediate, with her seizing the now-defunct Diva’s Championship within a matter of months. Sasha, on the other hand, remained apart from the championship scene after being derailed by injury.

Sasha persevered, though, and she made her return at this year’s Royal Rumble, letting Charlotte know she was coming for the belt. Yet, even fully recovered, Sasha came up short in a triple threat match for the WWE Women’s Championship at WrestleMania.

Fast forward a few months to the first Raw post-brand split, and Sasha made a huge statement by pinning Charlotte and claiming her first WWE Women’s Championship. With a rematch owed to Charlotte, Sasha is now staring at another first: her first WWE Women’s Championship defense.

A championship feel was in the air as Sasha and Charlotte made their larger-than-life entrances.

And the match began with a back and forth, with neither woman gaining control.

Sasha fired a warning shot, though, almost locking in the Bank Statement early on. Charlotte rolled out of the ring to regroup, and when she came back in, she took over with a dominant corner attack. The move took its toll on Sasha’s back, which Charlotte continued to target as the match went on.

Charlotte’s barrage was too much for Sasha, and any time Sasha tried to fight back, Charlotte had an answer. Sasha looked to be in even more trouble when Charotte went for the Figure-4, but Sasha managed to fight out of it.

Sasha found her opening when she reversed a top-rope Razors Edge with a Hurricanrana. In the minutes that followed, Sasha found her groove and took her turn targeting Charlotte’s back.

Charlotte would fight back, and it seemed like she had Sasha’s number with Natural Selection, but Sasha reversed into a crossface. Charlotte wasn’t deterred, though, and hit Natural Selection again. Still, Sasha kicked out of the pin attempt. Charlotte grew frustrated, slapping Charlotte several times.

Sasha didn’t take kindly to Charlotte’s ego and reversed into the Bank Statement. Charlotte had a counter of her own, though, and used her leverage to reverse into a pin. Surprisingly she got the pinfall, establishing Charlotte as the new WWE Women’s Champion.
