The WWE Hall of Fame will be welcoming in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express for the 2017 class.

The hall of fame is the most prestigious part of WWE, as it celebrates the greatest Superstars, managers, and other figures that have influenced wrestling. This has been running since the induction of Andre the Giant, and continues every year with a ceremony the night before WrestleMania.

With the 2017 ceremony approaching, WWE is starting to put together the latest class. We now know the tag team that will be part of this, as CBS Sports has announced that the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express will be inducted. This is the duo of Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson.

Morton told CBS Sports, “It was a surprise. I had a message on my phone [from WWE] to call the number back. I think they got ahold of Robert at the time. When they called, it was just like a suckerpunch. It just knocked us off our feet.” Gibson then added, “It’s an honor for Ricky and me to go into the hall of fame,”

Morton and Gibson have one of the longest tenures in the wrestling scene as a tag team, which spans about 40 years. They went through all the different territories in the 1980’s and early 1990’s, including making a stop in WWE. Along the way, they won tag team titles with Jim Crockett Promotions, the NWA, 10 times with Smoky Mountain, and three times with the United States Wrestling Association.

Next: Kurt Angle to Headline 2017 WWE HOF

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express joins Kurt Angle as the only members to be announced for the 2017 WWE Hall of Fame Class. They will be the first two of potentially 6-8 Superstars set for induction in Orlando, FL in just under two months. It’s a top honor for Morton, Gibson, and Angle, who will all be enshrined.
