WWE: What is Next for the New Day?

After breaking the record for the longest WWE tag title reign, what is next for the New Day as the trio lingers around without any direction?

The New Day is one of the most entertaining aspects of Monday night Raw. The trio of Kingston, Woods and Big E surpassed all expectations in terms of the success they have had. What started as a generic happy-go-lucky babyface stable would go on to evolve as one of WWE’s best stables. The New Day would be talked about alongside the likes of the Wyatt family and the Shield. Though the trio are not as dominant as the Shield or as fresh as the Wyatts, New Day are the most entertaining of them all.

The trio would fail to find traction during their early stages. The crowd loved to boo them and reject them without any time under their wings. However, once they turned their acts around and turned heel everything turned around. Moreover, they would soon be allowed to amp up the crazy part of their act. This would involve Big E’s oozing charisma to Woods’ carrying Francesca and Francesca 2 to the ring.

The New Day would reach the pinnacle of their success throughout 2016. They would top the merchandise sales and solidify their position as one of the most important cogs in the WWE machine. Creative and management’s faith in them would allow them to etch their names in history as the longest reigning tag champions of all time. Woods, Kingston and Big E had achieved everything they had hoped to and more by then.

The trio would then drop the titles to Cesaro and Sheamus at Roadblock ending their historic title reign. Moreover, from that point, the trio would begin to lose direction and creative edge. Without the gold around their waists, creative no longer knew what to make of their goofiness. During the Royal Rumble season a large portion of the IWC began speculating about the trio breaking up. However, that would not come to be the case as creative decided to milk the concept even more.

Their latest incarnation has brought up New Day Ice creams on top of Booty O cereals. Crazy as it sounds, the charisma of the New Day gets the crowd interested in this somehow. But one would have to wonder what lies ahead for them at this stage. Without proper direction, the trio have been feuding with the Shining stars and Titus O’Neil of all people. New Day are a top act in the WWE and they should not be mixing it up with the bottom of the card in this manner.

Moreover, with Wrestlemania fast approaching us, they would have to be placed in a meaningful feud worthy of a Wrestlemania moment. A feud with Braun Strowman would be fresh and interesting to simply blurt out an idea. Clearly, the stable has accomplished everything a tag team could hope for. Placing them in a feud for the tag titles or number one contender spot would not create much interest in the crowd. Rather, a storyline feud with somebody else could work wonders and help creative milk the idea.

Fending off both Kingston and Woods on his own would make Strowman look like an even vicious monster, as well as squaring off with Big E and trading power slams. They could even get into a fray with Stephanie McMahon for some reason. These are just a few ideas to pick from. Creative would be able to find tons of different ways to book them as credible performers. Bottom line is, having the New Day in the tag team scene alone now would be a huge waste.

We had speculated much about what could go down should the trio split eventually. Perhaps that could be the Wrestlemania moment that awaits them this year. However, if the trio would not be splitting anytime soon, creative would have to look for ways to turn them heel. Because, with each passing week without any direction or progression, they would be losing momentum.

The New Day would have to be placed in a Wrestlemania worth storyline as soon as possible. It could eventually turn them heel in the process. Regardless, they would have to come up with a storyline development that would make the trio relevant. Creative should look for ideas that would give them something to chase after. Splitting them would be on the most logical choices. However, if it would have to come to alternatives, a heel turn at the very least would have to follow soon.
