WWE Makes Terrible Oscars 2017 Ending Reference on Raw (Video)

The WWE had to pull off something to play on the Oscars ending, right?

WWE always looks to stay “relevant” with pop culture. They make references about Presidents of the United States, big sports stories, and controversy that happens in the entertainment world. It’s usually eye-rolling and something you can picture Vince McMahon chuckling about backstage.

Well, this happened within the first 20 minutes of Raw on Monday night.

The second segment of the show saw New Day appear and cut a promo. They started talking, until the Shining Stars came down. Of course, when they did, Big E revealed on his index card that it was supposed to be Jinder Mahal and Rusev facing them in the match instead. This is a play on the ending to Sunday night’s Oscars event, which saw the award for Best Picture mistakenly go to La La Land, when it had been meant for (and quickly corrected) to Moonlight.

You had to of seen this coming, right? WWE always tries things like this, and quickly went to an Oscars reference not even 30 minutes into the show. It was the cringeworthy, eye-rolling act you know you expected from McMahon and WWE. Let’s just hope this is the only time the controversial ending is mentioned on Raw. There’s still SmackDown too.

New Day being used for this keeps up with the light tone of their gimmick too. They haven’t done much since their Raw Tag Team Championship reign ended, and this may have been the most relevant thing that’s happened with them since it will get mainstream publicity.
