Just when you expect everything to happen on WWE programming, Shawn Michaels showed up on Monday’s episode of Raw.
Shawn Michaels’ previous WWE appearances had been advertised in advance. Whether it’s to promote a movie, a book or just to boost the ratings, he usually shows up when everyone expects it.
On Monday’s episode of Raw, Roman Reigns called out the Undertaker to build their WrestleMania 33 match. He stood there as the show went to commercial, only to come back and not have the Dead Man appear. Instead, HBK made a surprise appearance and made his way to the ring.
Reigns said he asked for Taker, not Michaels and got the expected negative crowd reaction. He ignorantly played off the Phenom, until Mr. WrestleMania laid some “real” takes, including how everyone will want him to fail. However, he said he’s on the Big Dog’s side.
Reigns fired back, saying Undertaker retired Michaels. He finished his promo by declaring his intention of doing the same to the 51-year-old.
This somewhat missed the mark here. Michaels tried hard to put over Reigns, saying this is “his yard” and how he’s behind the former Shield man. The crowd didn’t buy it and it felt forced, almost like this was coming from a script someone made backstage.
Reigns’ promo work here was off at first, but picked up at the end, especially when he said he will “retire” Undertaker. Commentary ignored this, so it doesn’t seem there’s much to make from this line.

It was a good surprise to see Shawn Michaels back, no matter how good or bad this segment was. When will we see him next?
