4. Demolition
This one is long overdue. There’s just one big problem. Ax and Smash, Bill Eadie and Barry Darsow, respectively, are currently involved in a class action lawsuit against the WWE for neurological problems they’ve had since their careers ended. However, 3 other former stars that are involved in the suit are in the hall of fame already. Jimmy Snuka (1996), Paul Orndorff (2005), and Road Warrior Animal (2011) are parties in this case. So if that’s the only thing holding up Demolition, one of the greatest tag teams of all time, then that’s not very fair and to honest, a bit petty. I’m hoping this all gets cleared up before next year’s ceremony and these two get in.
The duo came to the WWF in early 1987 and immediately began running roughshod over the company’s tag team division to the tune of a first-year record of114-30-9 (cagematch.net) which led to a title shot at WrestleMania IV the following year. On that night in Atlantic City, they defeated Strike Force to become champions where they went on a 478-day title reign, a record that held up for over 27 years. Demolition started as a heel team but they quickly became popular among fans which led to 2 more title reigns and a distinct notion that these two made up one of the best tag teams of all time. They have the most combined days as champions (698) and were the top dogs in a very good tag team division which featured teams like The Brainbusters, Money Inc., The Colossal Connection, and The Hart Foundation.
Deciding who would potentially induct them is a little bit challenging but one name that comes to mind is 2012 Hall of Fame class member, Arn Anderson. As The Brainbusters alongside Tully Blanchard, the two teams traded the title back and forth twice between 1988 and 1989 in a series outstanding tag matches. Anderson also happens to be a very close friend of Darsow. Demolition will forever be etched in WWE lore as the bruising, dominant tandem of the late 80’s and for that, their induction should be a no doubter.
