Drew McIntyre Signs with WWE NXT
Drew McIntyre tells ESPN he signed with NXT after NXT TakeOver: Orlando.
ESPN confirmed what so many thought when we saw Drew Galloway/McIntyre ringside at NXT TakeOver: Orlando. The report from Tom Fiorvanti can be found here. The Scottish wrestlers has officially signed a deal with NXT after being away from WWE for 3 years.
While a big question was answered with McIntyre’s signing a lot more questions arise. It’ll be interesting to see when and where we first see the former WWE superstar in action. Last year at NXT TakeOver: Dallas was the first time we saw Bobby Roode. However, we didn’t see the glorious one step into an NXT Ring to wrestle until NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II. Could McIntyre follow a path similar to that of the current NXT Champion, Bobby Roode?
The signing couldn’t come at a better time. With WrestleMania call-ups on the horizon and another potential draft in the near future, NXT needs all the star power it can get. That could be losing stars like Shinsuke Nakamura to the main roster.
Last time we saw McIntyre he was teamed up with Heath Slater and Jinder Mahal in 3MB. Since then, McIntyre made a name for himself on the indie circuit as Drew Galloway, including a stint with pro wrestling company, TNA.
As previously stated, McIntyre is a former WWE Superstar and it’ll be interesting to see how long they will keep him developmental. On one hand, he has the main roster experience, and also, he could be what NXT needs to take it to the next level.
McIntyre is the current WCPW Champion, a former WWE Tag Team Champion and a former WWE Intercontinental Champion. So, he brings plenty of experience to the table.
