Highlights of the Division
Braun Strowman shot his way up the mid card division to the top spot of the world title picture with his recent win over Roman Reigns at Payback. Strowman is deserving of that mantle of being the top contender for a number of particular reasons. First, his massive creative push since WrestleMania has been earth-shattering. Second would have to be his performances inside and out of the ring and last would be the victories he has claimed in his path of destruction.
Roman Reigns is at a point right now where he was the guy to challenge Brock Lesnar for the Universal Title to now cling for relevancy in the main event scene. The war between both men is far from over but it’ll be interesting to see how Reigns is booked by creative moving forward. The man who retired the Undertaker at WrestleMania shouldn’t be used as a stepping stone for an emerging superstar like Braun Strowman.
Meanwhile, for the Rest of the Division
Seth Rollins defeated Samoa Joe at Payback and lost his opportunity to challenge Dean Ambrose for the Intercontinental Championship because of Joe. From a storyline perspective, it makes sense for Rollins to get the victory at Payback but it would be wise for Joe to even the score at the very next pay per view event. Samoa Joe needs to defeat the Architect to validate his potential prospect as a future world champion.
Bray Wyatt finally defeated the Viper without capturing the WWE Championship at Payback, which was a stupid scenario from the get go. So the Eater of Worlds doesn’t get his title rematch and now is feuding with Finn Balor for no apparent reason. He didn’t ask Kurt Angle for a Universal Title shot, just his blessings to cause destruction on RAW. This feud between Balor and Wyatt will be silly but stranger things have happened in the past.
