WWE Rumors: Bayley vs. Alexa Bliss Match Result at Payback Changed 4 Times

Alexa Bliss may have taken Bayley’s Raw Women’s Championship at Payback, but not without WWE making multiple last-minute changes to this match.

One of the two title changes to take place at WWE Payback saw Alexa Bliss win the Raw Women’s Championship off Bayley. They competed in a match that went just over 10 minutes, with Bliss hitting a DDT, after Bayley’s face went into an exposed turnbuckle, for the win.

This victory made Bliss the first WWE star to win the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Championships. An impressive feat, to say the least. However, it nearly didn’t happen.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Bliss vs. Bayley had its finish changed four times in the final 30 hours before the match. There had been a plan for the Third Women to Hold the Raw Women’s Championship to retain the belt as soon as Saturday.

Clearly, WWE officials were divided over what to do with this match. Arguments were likely made for Bayley getting the hometown win, as well as letting Bliss capitalize on what she’s been doing on WWE TV. For it to be flipped so often, and in such a short time, is interesting, however.

Does this represent a lack of long-term planning? Potentially, but it’s difficult to know if that’s the case. It leaves the state of the Raw Women’s Division in limbo, along with the performers of the match.

Bliss is the champion, though, which is all that matters at this point. A rematch with Bayley should be expected, although she just pinned the Huggable One in the ring on the most recent episode of Raw. Will that hinder anything that we may see before a potential rematch?
