Brock Lesnar’s first WWE Universal Championship defense won’t be until July, so who is he rumored to be facing?

Recently, Brock Lesnar’s first WWE Universal Championship defense was announced. It will take place on Sunday, Jul. 9 at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, TX, as part of WWE’s Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view.

So far, there hasn’t been a No. 1 Contenders Match to determine who faces Lesnar at this show. Braun Strowman had confronted the Beast Incarnate on the post-WrestleMania episode of Raw, and Paul Heyman called out Roman Reigns. However, Lesnar and Heyman haven’t appeared since to push a storyline.

Well, it seems there’s at least a plan for what may happen. According to the Wrestling Observer, Strowman is the planned opponent for Lesnar at Great Balls of Fire. It may even lead to a rematch at SummerSlam.

WWE giving away Strowman vs. Lesnar before SummerSlam would be an interesting call. That may mean we get a disjointed finish at Great Balls of Fire, though, which sets up a clean ending at SummerSlam. Then, other Superstars can get into the title mix like Finn Balor and Seth Rollins.

Lesnar vs. Strowman would be a first-time-ever matchup, as they haven’t faced off in a WWE TV match. It would also represent the former Next Big Thing’s first non-Goldberg PPV match since SummerSlam 2016, where he defeated Randy Orton via TKO in the main event.

For Strowman, this would also be his first PPV title match. He faced Kevin Owens for the Universal Championship on an episode of Raw, but it didn’t receive a clean finish.
