A look at why Jinder Mahal should become the new WWE champion at Backlash 2017.

Jinder Mahal turned heads and grabbed center stage over the course of the past few weeks on SmackDown Live. The Maharajah would beat fan favorites like Sami Zayn to win a six-pack challenge to determine the number one contender for the WWE title. Following a win that would send shock waves through SmackDown, Mahal took it to himself to take the Viper down. Most recently, Mahal would ambush Orton and steal the WWE title from the Viper.

A lower mid-card performer during his entire stint with the WWE, Mahal’s rise to title contention is quite surprising. However, going up against Randy Orton is something else. The Apex predator is a 13 time champion in the WWE. He has constantly gone up against some of the very best out there. More importantly, Orton has come out on top of most of them. It is in this light that Mahal’s challenge creates a sense of doubt.

Fans would have to wonder if this feud is a mere placeholder for something else. Perhaps, creative could be stalling time with this while they build up Shinsuke Nakamura. However, on the flip side, one could think that creative is actually invested in Mahal and his push. We had noted a rumored explanation for Mahal’s main event push out of the blue earlier. With that in mind, what if Jinder Mahal were to win the WWE title come Backlash? Here are three reasons why he could and he should.
