With WWE reporting Braun Strowman being out of action for up to six months, what direction could they go in for the SummerSlam main event?

Braun Strowman had been WWE’s rising star. Despite not getting a WrestleMania 33 match, his stock took off, beginning with the Raw after the show. This had him continue his feud with Roman Reigns, which had been put on hold for The Undertaker. It quickly led to big things being set up for summer, especially with the Monster Among Men’s rumored SummerSlam plans.

From there, Strowman and Reigns brawled on Raw and had a match at WWE Payback. The former won, getting his first singles bout victory over the Big Dog — finishing with a clean pinfall.

Afterward, things took a turn for the worst for one of WWE’s top heels. Pro Wrestling Sheet reported him needing elbow surgery, having a 4-8 week timetable to return. This didn’t seem like a bad scenario for Strowman’s SummerSlam plans, as he could return in July and set up a match with Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship.

However, this may have changed. WWE confirmed Strowman’s injury on Monday, saying doctors found he had a “shattered elbow,” leading to a recovery timetable of “up to six months.” While this doesn’t sound like the greatest medical term for an injury, it may be a way of covering what the actual diagnosis is.

Until something changes, Strowman’s status for SummerSlam is in doubt, meaning he wouldn’t be in the show’s main event. WWE has to plan other options, though, so what could headline the event at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY?
