WWE NXT star Tommaso Ciampa potentially suffered a leg injury at Thursday’s live event, days before the TakeOver: Chicago show.

Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano have been the top face team of WWE NXT since last summer. They rose to become NXT Tag Team Champions, and even after losing the belts in January, DIY have remained prominent figures in the NXT Tag Team Division.

Saturday is supposed to be Ciampa and Gargano’s rematch with The Authors of Pain for the titles. However, it may be in jeopardy.

At Thursday night’s NXT live event, Ciampa may have suffered a leg injury. It happened minutes into his match against SAnitY, with the referee throwing up the “X” symbol, meaning there’s a legitimate ailment. This stopped the bout, as Ciampa hobbled to the back on one leg. Scott Littleton, a former writer of Daily DDT who attended this event in Highland Heights, OH, passed along these details.

The injury has made its way through Twitter, as well, with photos of Ciampa limping up the stage being shown:

Twitter user @SugaShane83 also passed along this video of when Ciampa hurt his leg:

Depending on the severity, this has the chance to be devastating for the upcoming NXT Tag Team Championship Match at TakeOver: Chicago. It puts the bout at risk of not happening, something that fans should be wary of over the next 48 hours.

There’s the chance this could have been kayfabe, but having a match stopped just three minutes in for a seemingly-real injury would be odd. We’ll see if it turns out to be this or an injury that’s not going to be problematic.

TakeOver: Chicago’s card was already hit by one injury, with Ember Moon being forced off. She suffered a shoulder injury in the No. 1 Contenders Battle Royal, taking her out of the Fatal Four-way Match for the NXT Women’s Championship. This will now be Asuka defending against Ruby Riot and Nikki Cross.

Now we wait for WWE to potentially provide an update on Ciampa’s status. If not, TakeOver: Chicago may be where everyone learns his fate.
