We’re not even halfway through 2017, but can Tyler Bate vs. Pete Dunne already be called the WWE Match of the Year?

At the end of every year, WWE fans will always look back at the Match of the Year. There’s usually a debate over this, with some years not having a bout that stands out the most, leaving many choices.

In 2017, we’ve already had multiple matches up for being the top one from the WWE. The No. 1 Contenders Match for the Intercontinental Championship from Raw is an option, which saw The Miz defeat Finn Balor and Seth Rollins. Another is the NXT Tag Team Championship Match from NXT TakeOver: Orlando.

Well, everyone may have seen the best match of 2017 at NXT TakeOver: Chicago. This came in the form of Tyler Bate vs. Pete Dunne for the United Kingdom Championship.

There had been hype around Bate and Dunne before TakeOver, but they were far from being household names. Both put on very good performances at the UK Tournament in January, but none of it exceeded what they did on Saturday night.

The match Bate and Dunne put on was a technical masterpiece and basically flawless. From the in-ring psychology to the properly placed spots, these two British wrestlers put on a performance for the ages. They had the crowd standing on its feet, doing dueling chants for these Superstars as everyone stayed invested in the action.

For nearly 20 minutes, Dunne and Bate rocked the house. It was an instant classic that’s going to be hard for anyone to top this year in WWE. Sure, we’re going to see some terrific matches — maybe as soon as Sunday at Backlash, but to come close to what was seen on Saturday night will be difficult.
