Samoa Joe won the WWE Extreme Rules main event to earn a Universal Championship opportunity. How did the fans react?

To close WWE Extreme Rules, a fatal five-way took place to determine the next contender to the Universal Championship. It saw Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Samoa Joe, Finn Balor and Bray Wyatt compete, with the winner getting Brock Lesnar at Great Balls of Fire, the next Raw pay-per-view, which will take place on Sunday, July 9.

Well, after submitting Balor, Joe walked out of Baltimore, MD as the new No. 1 contender to the Universal Championship. He’ll take one-half of the main event spot at Great Balls of Fire.

With Joe coming out on top, he received plenty of reactions from WWE fans on Twitter. What did they have to say?

Noelle Foley gave a good reaction. If you like Spongebob Squarepants, you’ll enjoy this:

Joe vs. Lesnar is a match that was a potential dream scenario for many WWE fans. It’s a battle of two of the biggest stars on Raw and in WWE, which should make this a hard-hitting battle to close out next month’s PPV.

The former ROH star is getting his first big title opportunity since NXT, where he was a two-time NXT Champion, becoming the Superstar to hold this belt multiple times. Now, he’ll be able to add to that hardware.

As for Lesnar, he won the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 33, defeating Goldberg. He’s been seen on WWE programming just once since, appearing on the post-Raw. Given how short his matches were with Goldberg, due to age and time away from the ring, this one with Joe should be longer.
