WWE Universal Championship Match
Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Samoa Joe

Result: Brock Lesnar defeats Samoa Joe via pinfall to retain the WWE Universal Championship.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

The main event that felt special for weeks, Brock Lesnar and Samoa Joe went to battle at Great Balls of Fire. They fought for most of the build, with things culminating at Sunday’s PPV.

Is there a better way to make a statement then attacking from the start? That’s what Joe did, as he hit a Uranage on Lesnar, through the announce table at ringside.

The match had a fast-paced, hard-hitting feel to it from the start. Lesnar and Joe destroyed each other, until it became a one-sided affair.

The Beast Incarnate hit nearly one dozen suplexes, sending Joe across the ring. The Samoan Submission Machine almost got the Coquina Clutch on his opponent, but got hit with the F5 for the win.

For Lesnar, it potentially propels him to the main event of SummerSlam, where he could defend against either Braun Strowman or Roman Reigns. That’s not confirmed, but they should be the top two contenders for the title, after their showing at Great Balls of Fire.

For Joe, he’ll move on to something else. He put on a strong performance, but got overwhelmed by the more powerful competitor in the ring. Maybe Finn Balor or Reigns is in his future?
