WWE Rumors: SummerSlam Main Event Set with Raw Stars

The WWE SummerSlam main event may already be set, even before Great Balls of Fire gets underway.

On Sunday night, the top stars of Raw will take over Dallas, TX for the WWE Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view. This includes a Universal Championship, an Ambulance match and a battle of former tag team partners. They’ll all look for momentum before August’s SummerSlam show, which is a co-branded event.

Regarding the main event of SummerSlam, there’s potential news on it, according to F4WOnline.com. Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns is the plan for the headlining match, with them battling for the WWE Universal Championship. This was the planned main event for WrestleMania 34, which WWE decided to move up. They want to use Samoa Joe and Braun Strowman, who lost matches to Reigns, as potential challengers.

It’s interesting news before Great Balls of Fire. Will that mean regardless of what Reigns does at the show, he main events SummerSlam for a title opportunity? That may spark the win-loss record debate in WWE, if he loses to Strowman at Sunday’s event.

For Lesnar, that would mean he defeats Joe at Great Balls of Fire, but potentially loses the belt in just his second defense. It would mark his second loss in less than 12 months, something WWE had mostly avoided with him since WrestleMania 30.

As for Strowman and Joe, that leaves their SummerSlam plans in doubt, too. Who will they face? There’s no clear-cut foe for them, but that could develop at the PPV or Monday’s Raw.

This rumor will make Lesnar vs. Joe and Reigns vs. Strowman matches to watch with a closer eye at Great Balls of Fire. Implications are potentially in play here, which may shape the rest of WWE’s summer. Would this be the right move for WWE to make, if Reigns vs. Lesnar is definitely the plan?
