WWE Rumors: Vince McMahon the Reason for Talking Smack’s Demise

WWE Talking Smack is over, and it’s reportedly due to Vince McMahon’s dissatisfaction with the program.

On Friday, WWE announced the cancelation of Talking Smack, the weekly post-show for SmackDown Live. Like Raw Talk, Talking Smack will only be seen after Blue Brand pay-per-views. It featured the Superstars of Tuesday night in an unscripted format, different from what was seen during the two-hour program on the USA Network.

As for the reason for Talking Smack’s demise, it comes from the man in charge of the WWE himself. According to Sports Illustrated, Vince McMahon ended the show, due to its previously-noted unscripted nature and not being in the company’s best interests. This decision came at one of McMahon’s decreasing appearances at WWE events.

Talking Smack began just a short time into the brand split, which began in July 2016. It was a way of making Tuesday nights different from Raw, while somewhat matching the three total hours of programming.

Talking Smack used to air at 10:00 p.m. ET, immediately after SmackDown Live. However, when WWE 205 Live debuted in November, it pushed the Renee Young and Daniel Bryan-led show to a start time between 10:45 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. ET.

For whichever time slot Talking Smack aired on, it provided memorable moments. This included contributions to The Miz’s rise on SmackDown, displaying his WWE Intercontinental Championship reign in a different light and kicking off a General Manager-Superstar feud with Bryan.

Other Superstars were prominently featured, too, including ones that wouldn’t be featured as often on TV. John Cena, AJ Styles, Jinder Mahal and others even used this platform to put more detail into their feuds and give fans better reason to care about what they’re doing.
