WWE SummerSlam 2017: Bayley Injury Causes Her to Miss the Show

WWE will officially lose Bayley at SummerSlam, due to a shoulder injury she suffered on Raw.

Bayley was penciled in as the No. 1 contender to Alexa Bliss’ Raw Women’s Championship at WWE SummerSlam. Then came her shoulder injury she suffered on Raw, in a match against Nia Jax. It happened on a toss of Bayley by Jax.

On Monday, just hours before the next edition of Raw, WWE provided an official update on the Huggable One’s status for SummerSlam. She will miss the show, and it’s described as a “separated shoulder.”

To replace Bayley, there will be two Triple Threat matches on Raw. The winners will face off in a No. 1 Contenders match on the August 14 episode of the Flagship Show. That victor will get Bliss at SummerSlam.

The members of each match aren’t known. Given the limited roster WWE has for the Raw Women’s Division, it shouldn’t be difficult to pinpoint who will be involved:

  • Nia Jax
  • Mickie James
  • Emma
  • Sasha Banks
  • Dana Brooke
  • Alicia Fox

Banks and Jax have, by far, received the most air time of these six women. Emma saw inconsistent TV time throughout the summer, while Brooke and James rarely show up on Raw anymore. Fox still gets time on 205 Live, on occasion.

So, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Banks vs. Jax created for the August 14 episode of Raw. It’s due to the nature of the Raw Women’s Division, and how these two have been positioned, directly behind Bliss, for the past few months. Emma, James, Brooke, and Fox wouldn’t be believable winners unless WWE made them look stronger than ever over the next seven days.

WWE never ran Bliss vs. Jax at a pay-per-view, so this could be the direction they head in. If not, Banks could get her second consecutive opportunity on a Sunday night to capture the Raw Women’s Championship.
