A look at why Dean Ambrose shouldn’t have offered his fist in Shield style until the actual reunion at WWE SummerSlam.
Dean Ambrose isn’t called the Lunatic Fringe, on WWE Raw, for nothing. He is a crazy bad-ass individual who will go to any lengths to get things done. Also, he is a lunatic who doesn’t forget anything or forgive anyone. That applies to his brothers in the Shield as well. Rollins’s betrayal of the brotherhood took such a toll on the already insane Ambrose that he could never recover from it. Throughout the weeks, as Rollins tried to initiate a partial Shield reunion, Ambrose has remained unhinged.
The narrative here was clear. Ambrose just didn’t trust Seth Rollins. Not after that chair shot to Roman Reigns’s back. However, Rollins was in it for good this time and he wanted to clear his name. Rollins gave Ambrose a steel chair and would turn around so Ambrose could return the favor. However, the former Intercontinental Champion was sure that wasn’t enough. That moment was powerful and it served a purpose. It showed the fans how much Rollins wanted to rectify his mistake. In addition, it showed us how badly Ambrose was hurt that first time.
Over the past few weeks, the duo would often play cavalry for each other as they faced the tag champs in singles matches. However, things had begun to get predictable over time. Rollins gets beat up and Ambrose would make the save. Next week, Ambrose would get beat up and Rollins would make the save. However, despite this, Ambrose made it very clear he didn’t trust Rollins. That trust was signaled by him refusing to do the Shield fist pose.

This week on Raw, Rollins would face Sheamus in the second match of the night. As always, after the match a two on one assault began. Except that this time Ambrose did not come to the aid of his former brother. He would later explain backstage that he did not trust Rollins no matter what. Later, in another match Ambrose would end up getting the same treatment from the tag champs. However, unlike the former CZW star, Rollins, being the good brother would come to his aid. The segment would end with Ambrose offering Rollins the Shield fist pose and the Architect actually refusing it. This one moment was a big mistake.
For once, this is what Rollins wanted from the beginning. Now that the moment is here, why would he refuse? I can understand the WWE is trying to play up the emotional attachment fans would have to this moment. However, this was a mistake. In addition, Ambrose being moved by Rollins’s actions this time was confusing as well? To be frank, this wasn’t the first time the Architect played the cavalry to save Ambrose.

So what exactly happened here? It could be that creative was trying to show Ambrose was moved by Rollins’s gesture of coming to his aid despite him not doing the same. However, how do they explain Rollins’s refusal of the reunion? After all, this was what the Architect wanted all along. Ideally, what creative should have done was to have Ambrose continue to show his distrust for Rollins. He could perhaps come out and deliver one of his crazy promos. However, out of the blue Ambrose would get attacked by Cesaro and Sheamus with a couple of steel chairs. This could trigger Seth Rollins to make his way out and play cavalry.
But here is the twist; two men with steel chairs are tougher than the Architect. He would get beat up as well. However, even in the middle of all this, Rollins would crawl towards Ambrose and cover up his fallen brother’s body absorbing chair shot after chair shot. Such a brutal spot would have brought the fans to an ‘aw’ moment and would have melted even Ambrose’s heart. This is ideally what they should have done this week.
