WWE NXT: Asuka Relinquishes Women’s Championship (Video)

At Thursday’s WWE NXT TV taping, Asuka relinquished the NXT Women’s Championship, ending her 500-plus day reign. What’s next for her?

At WWE NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III, Asuka defeated Ember Moon to retain the NXT Women’s Championship. However, the former walked out with a broken collarbone that will sideline her for up to two months.

The injury brought Asuka’s title reign into question. WWE usually makes injured stars drop their titles, so they remain on television (see Naomi after Elimination Chamber 2017 and Finn Balor after SummerSlam 2016).

At Thursday’s NXT TV taping, the Empress of tomorrow officially relinquished her NXT Women’s Championship in a segment for a future episode of WWE NXT. The video was posted by the company Twitter, so it’s not a “spoiler:”

A potential spoiler on Asuka’s future is below, however.

Wrestling Inc noted, that at the TV taping, William Regal announced that Asuka is negotiating with Raw and SmackDown Live to be part of one of their brands. That obviously means a call-up is on the way for Asuka.

If this happens, it would end the Japanese Sensation’s nearly two-year run in NXT. She signed in September 2015, after being first shown at the NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn event. Since this happened, Asuka never lost a match by pinfall or submission in NXT and didn’t have anyone go over her for the NXT Women’s Championship, a reign that began at TakeOver: Dallas in April 2016.

The future is six-to-eight weeks for Asuka in the WWE. What brand will she debut on in the fall season?
