WWE: The Miz becomes 3rd-Longest Reigning Intercontinental Champion of All Time

Current WWE Intercontinental Champion, The Miz, has added another feather in his cap.

The Miz has officially surpassed The Honky Tonk Man to become the 3rd-longest reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion of all time. As well as celebrating the arrival of his new baby, The Miz also celebrated his incredible title reign on Twitter, who wrote:

"Today I surpass Honky Tonk Man to become the 3rd longest reigning IC Champ of all time."

The Miz, who is slowly becoming a new fan favourite, will – as it stands – be in the record books for one of the longest reigning Champions of all time. Congrats, Mr. Miz. As well as main eventing a WrestleMania against John Cena, albeit a while ago, The Miz can take pride in knowing that he’s now on track to becoming the seconds longest, then the first longest reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time. And why not?

In what has been a mostly mid-card career, The Miz deserves the title of the longest reigning IC champion of all time. A once hated, and average performer, has turned his heel act into can’t miss segments on WWE TV. His shoot-like promos, dating back to the Talking Smack days, have really helping in adding credibility to his character. The resurgence of his career has been a surprising one.

He’s never been a great in-ring performer, however, he has always been talented on the microphone. Moreover, been talented at getting fans to boo. This important quality has helped him garner real heel heat against the likes of Daniel Bryan, Dean Ambrose, Jason Jordon, and even more recently, John Cena and Roman Reigns. On the other hand, the smart fans have really warmed to The Miz. Appreciating his work more than ever.

Lets take a look at the all important numbers: It’ll take 86 days to surpass #2, Don Muraco, and 165 days to out rank #1, Pedro Morales. Given the WWE’s obsession with record breaking, I really wouldn’t be surprised to see The Miz at number one in the not so distant future.

Similarly to The New Day, the WWE should work it into a storyline nearer the time. Have The Miz defend his title on the last possible Raw (before he breaks the record), with fans wondering if The Miz will be crowed the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time, or, if he will fall short right at the final hurdle. It could make for some compelling TV.
