WWE No Mercy 2017: Why Jason Jordan Will Win the Intercontinental Championship
By Bryan Heaton
Jason Jordan gets his first shot at singles gold at No Mercy this weekend. Here’s why he will win the Intercontinental Championship.
Jason Jordan has had an interesting few months as a member of the Raw roster. When he was introduced as the long lost son of General Manager Kurt Angle, it looked like he was set for a big push. But the WWE Universe soured on him after a few weeks. Sadly, his big SummerSlam match took place to open the kickoff show – and the building was basically empty.
Since SummerSlam, though, Jordan has built himself back up. His main rival thus far on Raw has been The Miz. The A-Lister is looking to bring prestige back to the Intercontinental Championship – a title that he feels has been ignored by Angle for far too long.
Last week on Raw, Miz launched into a tirade at Angle, calling him a bad father. This brought Jordan out to the ring to stand up for his dad. While Angle thought it was a mistake for Jordan to let his emotions get the better of him, he relented to his demands to add The Miztourage to what was to be a fatal four way match later that night.
Now a six pack challenge – with the winner facing Miz at No Mercy for the Intercontinental Championship – Jordan scored a pinfall over Curtis Axel to punch his ticket to a title match. It looks like Jordan is being fast tracked towards a championship victory. And I think it’s time that happens.

The Miz has proven that he is a terrific addition to whatever roster he’s on. Whether Raw or SmackDown Live, Miz has been one of the most entertaining parts of the show for months now. With seven reigns as Intercontinental Champion under his belt, Miz is within striking distance of the record held by Chris Jericho (nine). Wouldn’t it be something if that record eventually fell?
The thing is, to win the title two more times to tie the record, Miz has to eventually lose it. Enter Jason Jordan. The standout amateur wrestler has gotten the crowd back on his side after a rough patch. And he’s got the talent to put on some great matches with the Intercontinental Championship on the line. Just take a look at Jordan’s recent matches with John Cena and Roman Reigns.
The time is right to see what Jordan can do with a singles title. As part of American Alpha with Chad Gable, Jordan had a great run with the NXT Tag Team Championship. There was also a not so great run with the SmackDown Tag Team Titles. But if the point of a singles run was to push him in the midcard, winning the Intercontinental Championship is a pretty good next step for Jordan.

With his highest profile singles match to date taking place at No Mercy, Jordan needs to strike while the iron is hot. It’s a win-win situation – Jordan gets a run with the title, and it opens the door for Miz to regain the title in the future. Tune in on Sunday to see if Jordan takes the next step in his singles career.
