Is the WWE Wasting the Potential of The Hardy Boyz?

The Hardy Boyz made their triumphant return to the WWE at WrestleMania this spring.  Since then they have been on a roller-coaster.  What does the WWE have in store for the brothers?

The day was April 2, 2017, a lovely day in Orlando, Florida.  The city was abuzz with the electricity that only a weekend of top-tier pro wrestling could deliver.  With over 1000 events spanning the course of the weekend, Orlando was the pro wrestling capital of the world.  On Sunday, April 2, The Hardy Boyz returned home.  After a decade away from the WWE, they made their surprise comeback on the Grandest Stage of them All.

The New Day, who were the hosts for the event, teased that they would be involved in the match.  Then the familiar music of The Hardyz began to echo throughout Camping World Stadium.  Just 24 hours prior, The Hardy Boyz were in a ladder match at the weekend’s Ring of Honor Event.  At WrestleMania, they would be in that very same match.  Unlike their previous dance with the ladders, Matt and Jeff would be victorious on this night.

The whirlwind comeback story would not last for long.  Soon The Hardy Boyz would lose the tag titles to The Bar.  After the losing the titles, the Hardy Boyz would fall from the title picture.  When They made their return, I instantly had flashbacks to the surprise return of another Attitude Era tag team, The Dudley Boyz.  The Dudleys would return to huge fanfare but would never get the titles during their final act as a team.  They would slowly fall into the background and become just another team on the roster.  This upset fans as many felt that The Dudleys deserved far better and at least one final run with the belts.

Winning the tag titles their first night back in the company would guarantee that The Hardyz wouldn’t meet the same twist of fate.  But once they lost the titles the luster seemed to wear off with each passing week.  They have been used in the elder statesmen role of getting the younger talent to the next level.  There is nothing wrong with that at all as both are professionals and hold the unwritten rules of the business true.

The WWE Universe may soon be woken just to become broken

Every time we see Matt or the brothers together, they both tease personas from their past.  Broken Matt and Brother Nero are in WWE, in a sense.  With the ongoing legal battles between the Hardys and Anthem (the owners of GFW), we may never truly see The Broken Universe in WWE.  Matt has tiptoed up to the line but is far too smart to go over it.  He has gone as far to say he has become “woken.”  Using his same broken mannerisms but in a new universe.

It hasn’t been a year yet but there have been grumblings that The Hardyz have been wasted in their time back already.  I can’t subscribe to that method of thinking just based off their first night back. Winning the titles at Wrestlemania is a huge reintroduction to the WWE Universe.  Since they have had solid tag matches and have made the younger talent look great.

The brothers will eventually go their separate ways as they have previously.  This time around Matt has better cards in his hand that could secure him a better singles run this time around.  I believe the best is still yet to come for The Hardy Boyz.  Once Jeff is back from his injury and if pending lawsuits settle, the WWE Universe could be in for a treat.
