WWE Rumors: Is Neville About To Return?

All has been quiet surrounding WWE Superstar Neville, who walked out of the company last moth and reportedly asked for his release.

Neville put the Cruiserweight Division on the map when he made his return at Roadblock: End of the Line in 2016, attacking Rich Swann in an unexpected heel turn. Over the several months that passed after Neville defeated Swann for the Cruiserweight Championship at the Royal Rumble, Neville solidified himself as the centerpiece of 205 Live, fitting in perfectly as a deranged heel who proclaimed himself the “King of the Cruiserweights”.

But Neville was asked to drop the title to Enzo Amore at No Mercy, and after being asked to lose to the polarizing Enzo again, he reportedly walked out of the company. It seemed like Neville would be guaranteed to be released, and some speculated that the WWE could wait until his contract ran out to release him (therefore preventing him from signing with another promotion).

PWInsider.com reports that Neville could actually return to the WWE before the end of the month, and some in the company are even more optimistic than that. The optimism centers around, as per Mike Johnson, “recent positive discussions” between Neville and the WWE.

Perhaps cooler heads have prevailed, because it seemed quite striking for Neville to simply quit the company out of the blue without even scheduling a meeting with Vince McMahon. Because he is on 205 Live, Neville isn’t a main event player on the Raw roster, but he has enough talent to be that kind of guy. More importantly, the WWE built 205 Live around him, and they are probably realizing that Enzo’s mouth can only go so far as the top guy on the show. When he received “This is boring!” chants in Manchester, Enzo failed to respond appropriately.

When Neville walked out during the episode of Raw that he was asked to lose to Enzo, it seemed like the company was still trying to convince him to stay. PWInsider previously reported that Neville wanted to be released in order to build his brand outside of WWE like Drew McIntyre, who is currently NXT Champion and in the midst of the best work of his career.
