WWE Superstar Kofi Kingston: ‘We Don’t Fear The Shield’

The New Day, representing SmackDown Live, will battle The Shield, representing Raw, at WWE Survivor Series on Sunday, Nov. 19 live on WWE Network from the Toyota Center in Houston. New Day member Kofi Kingston discusses the match-up.

The New Day cost The Shield members the Raw tag team titles, and the Hounds of Justice are seeking revenge at WWE Survivor Series on Sunday, Nov. 19 live on WWE Network from the Toyota Center in Houston.

The annual mega-event pits the best of Raw against the best of SmackDown Live, apropos for The New Day and The Shield, two of the top factions in WWE history.

The New Day (Big E, Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods) and The Shield (Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins) are accustomed to big performances on the big stage. Most recently, The New Day and The Usos delivered a show stealing match from the drop kickoff show at SummerSlam.

At Survivor Series, The New Day and The Shield are on the main card.

The New Day unintentionally pranked Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins when they made a surprise appearance recently on rival show Monday Night Raw and cost the two members of The Shield their Raw tag team titles. Roman Reigns then re-joined his brethren, which led to special match of the two iconic groupings at Survivor Series.

Speaking of pranking, Kingston is featured in the Disney XD series “Walk the Prank,” a show for kids and families that blends scripted comedy with over-the-top hidden camera pranks. He joins fellow New Day member Big E, WWE Raw Women’s Champ Alexa Bliss and WWE Hall of Famers Diamond Dallas Page and Sting on the show, which airs 11 a.m. ET Saturday, Nov. 18 on Disney XD, DisneyNOW and VOD.

The New Day are four-time tag team champions in company history, and The Shield are two-time tag team champions.

Kofi Kingston says The New Day is ready to not only win the match, not only attain brand and faction bragging rights but also prove what’s better — dogs or unicorns.

“Me, Woods, E have a bond that can not be broken,” Kingston said. “You can’t say that about The Shield. They’ve already turned their backs on one another several times. So it’s like you guys don’t have the same bond that we have.

“Yes, you guys are all great competitors individually. You guys have done some awesome things. As a team, you’ve done some pretty cool things, but you’re not the longest reigning tag team champions in the history of [WWE] like we are.”

Here is more from that exclusive audio interview with Kofi that I conducted discussing The Shield:

That match, as well as the tag match between Raw Tag Team Champs Sheamus and Cesaro and SmackDown Team Team Champs The Usos (Jimmy and Jey) are strong matchups. These two tag team matches have show-stealing potential.

They’ve proved it before, and thus, tag team wrestling has really improved in WWE.
