WWE Rumors: Clash Of Champions Main Event Revealed?

WWE SmackDown Live will have the final pay per view of the year in December when the “Blue Brand” convenes in Boston’s TD Garden for Clash of Champions 2017. Has the main event already been leaked?

Jinder Mahal is due for a rematch with AJ Styles for the WWE Championship after the Phenomenal One picked up a decisive, memorable victory in Manchester, England. Styles’s win came in the best match of Mahal’s career, as Styles has an uncanny way of telling any story perfectly and is one of the most over wrestlers in the world.

Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com reports that the main event of Clash of Champions, which is a WWE SmackDown Live exclusive pay per view, will be a WWE Championship match between Mahal and Styles.

This isn’t a surprising report from Johnson, who is spot-on with everything he says, but many felt that Mahal could invoke his rematch clause on the Nov. 21 episode of SmackDown Live. After all, Jinder Mahal cut a promo at Survivor Series stating that he wanted Styles to win, but also wanted Brock Lesnar to beat him up in order to soften Styles for an upcoming match with Mahal.

The prevailing belief was that Mahal would quickly get his rematch, especially since there is suspense that he could be the champion again as we head into the India tour. Of course, the fact that Styles vs. Jinder will reportedly headline Clash of Champions doesn’t rule this scenario out, because Mahal could win tonight (or on another episode of SmackDown) and simply defend the title against Styles at the Dec. 17 pay per view.

That said, I highly doubt the WWE goes back to the Mahal experiment as champion, since it didn’t work out. While it may be a drag to see almost a month of promos between these two, it is possible for Styles to make it work.

Either way, it sounds like Mahal vs. Styles is in the card next month at Clash of Champions, and it will be interesting to see how the WWE Universe feels about this report.
