WWE Raw: When Should Asuka Win the Women’s Championship?

facebooktwitterreddit

Asuka is one of the most charismatic superstars on the current WWE roster.  After dominating NXT, she is now beginning to stake her claim to the Raw Women’s crown.

In the Fall of 2015, the WWE Universe was introduced to the enigma that is Asuka.  The Japanese superstar would soon leave fans awestruck with her charisma.  It didn’t take very long before Asuka would begin her ascent towards the NXT Women’s Championship.  Fast forward to the fall of 2017, and Asuka is beginning that climb once again.  This time, however, for the Raw Women’s Championship.

Asuka made the absolute best of her time in NXT.  The Empress of Tomorrow would run through every challenger placed in front of her.  Like a hot knife through butter, she sliced through the NXT Women’s division with ease. She would soon have classic battles with Bayley where she would best the Doctor of Huganomics for the NXT title.  Then she took her rightful seat on the throne and only left when she got injured.

Then earlier this fall, the most dominant superstar in the history of NXT got the call to Raw.  Asuka would instantly place herself in a prominent role, gaining quick victories over Emma.  She would also gain a spot on the Raw Women’s Survivor Series team.  This past weekend she would join a prestigious group in being the Sole Survivor for her team.

The Empress of Tomorrow starts her march to a new reign

This brings not only fans but the WWE themselves to the next question.  When will Asuka become Raw Women’s Champion?  The fun answer is WrestleMania.  It’s the biggest show of the year and the most meaningful when it comes to wins and losses to a career.  Nothing can cement a wrestler’s career more than a huge title win at the Showcase of the Immortals.  So in a perfect world, she’d get the best of Alexa Bliss after a 20 minute classic in the main event.  OK, now that I’ve woken up from that lovely dream, the scenario still sticks except the main event portion.

The WWE isn’t always known for their subtle nuance and could easily push the eject button far too soon.  The earliest it would feel “right” for Asuka to gain the crown would be the Royal Rumble.  The Monday night crowd still needs more time to get accustomed to Asuka and to gain the appreciation that the NXT crowd had for her.  I think the casual fan is more knowledgeable of the NXT roster more than in years past, but still, a huge gap to fill.  So with two months to build the Royal Rumble could be a good place to make the switch.

Asuka running roughshod over the Raw Women’s roster for two months would work wonders for her character.  All the WWE needs to do is copy her booking from NXT and the casual fan will love her.  In sales, there is a mantra of K-I-S-S “Keep It Simple Stupid.”  That is all the creative team needs to remember, no need for over-convoluted stories with Asuka.  Just let her go out, kick some butt, and do her thing.

So to build the proper story the earliest Asuka should win the title is the Royal Rumble, the most ideal bring WrestleMania.  An Asuka title win shouldn’t happen on some random RAW out of nowhere.  It isn’t an RKO, it’s a title win, no need to be out of nowhere!  Asuka throughout her entire career has been captivating and awe-inspiring.  She has that charisma where you can’t place your finger on the exact point, but you can’t take your eyes off of her.  So if all goes right, Asuka will be raising the Raw Women’s Championship high in New Orleans.
