WWE Royal Rumble 2018: 3 Favorites To Win The Match
By Sarah Hirsch
WWE Royal Rumble 2018 is shaping up with the idea that this year it could be anyone’s game.
Let’s be honest here and agree that it is time for a fresh winner for WWE Royal Rumble 2018. By that, I mean a winner that fans want to see earn the right to challenge the champion at WrestleMania. After Edge’s win in 2010, the winners since then have been poorly received. Last year’s winner was acceptable, as Randy Orton won the contest in midst of a hot angle with The Wyatt Family. The win set up for an inevitable bout between Orton and Bray Wyatt.
So what does this year bring? In some cases, it could be an effort of redemption. In other cases, it could be a revival of their main roster careers. Superstars such as Roman Reigns or even John Cena doesn’t need a Rumble win to head to New Orleans. For talent like Braun Strowman or Sami Zayn, a Rumble win could be the chance they need to skyrocket to immortality in 2018.
And speaking of both men, it is known that some Superstars do double duty the night of the Rumble. Their inclusion in the Rumble isn’t out of the question by any means. But ultimately it comes down to whether the win makes sense heading out on the road to WrestleMania. There are so many ways the Championship scene could play out, it’s just a matter of what WWE ultimately decides to do. Will someone lose the Championship prior to WrestleMania? That’s a big factor as well. While it is rare for that to happen, it’s not an afterthought either.

A Raw winner would be relieving if it is someone other than Roman Reigns – the big rumor is the rematch that took place at WrestleMania 31 against Brock Lesnar.
Again, the scene could use something refreshing, and this is no disrespect to Reigns at all. With The Miz aiming to reclaim the Intercontinental Championship, this is a feud that has been established beforehand that deserves to culminate at WrestleMania.
Meaning, it goes all the way back to Miz’s feud with Dean Ambrose last year that ultimately brought on the reunion of The Shield.
SmackDown has been lacking as of late, so having a winner from the blue brand could be the boost they need to be on the top of their game heading into WrestleMania.
Between the Owens/Zayn alliance that has Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon butting heads following with their plan to dethrone current Champion AJ Styles, this is the main focus of the show that has been playing out for just about a year. It could go both ways, and Styles could get pinned at the Royal Rumble. It is no secret that Zayn and Owens have quite the history, and fans certainly wouldn’t mind them battling it out in New Orleans. However, there is another match fans want to see more. I’ll get to that shortly.
Perhaps WWE could start 2018 out on a clean slate, and the Royal Rumble is the perfect place to start. Who would be the heavy favorites to challenge the Champion in New Orleans? Here is one hint: if one of them wins, they would be the first man to win the Rumble in their debut.
