WWE: Stephanie McMahon Will Be An Announcer For Women’s Rumble

The first ever WWE Women’s Royal Rumble will take place this year on Jan. 28, and the company is trying to go all-in with promoting this event as a revolution for its female wrestlers. It will be interesting to see how the WWE Universe responds to the latest announcement that Stephanie McMahon will be on commentary.

Thanks to the first WWE Women’s Royal Rumble, this year’s Royal Rumble Pay Per View has twice as much hype as in year’s past. The WWE Universe can look forward to a triple threat match among Brock Lesnar, Kane, and Braun Strowman for the Universal Championship, as well as a WWE Championship handicap match between AJ Styles and the tandem of Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. There are also a couple of Tag Team Title matches.

However, the most important matches on the card are the Royal Rumble matches, and nothing feels bigger than the Women’s Royal Rumble match. It’s anyone’s guess as to who will win. Becky Lynch, Asuka, and Ronda Rousey are among the favorites, but there are plenty of fans hoping for sleepers like Bayley, Sasha Banks, or even somebody else to steal a big win.

The WWE likes to portray the image that they’ve started a revolution in women’s wrestling, and the Women’s Rumble is a big part of that. Despite the progress they’ve made in showcasing their women, they still have a long way to go, as evidenced by the Raw 25 show.

Now, Stephanie McMahon has tweeted that she will join the announce team for the first Women’s Royal Rumble. I’m sure this announcement will be met with plenty of controversy, because the fans accuse Vince McMahon of trying to make his daughter, who isn’t a wrestler, seem like the leading figure in the Women’s Revolution to the point where it detracts from the actual in-ring talent.

There’s no doubt that Stephanie has done a lot for women’s wrestling in WWE and beyond, and she is a strong voice in the movement to empower women in business. Her on-screen heel character is quite a strong presence, too, even if some believe it comes at a detriment to the rest of the performers.

As long as Stephanie McMahon puts her best foot forward and delivers on commentary, then I don’t see a huge problem here. But, of course, the cynical side of this is that it’s an example of Vince undermining his wrestlers by placing a McMahon at the forefront of an event that should really be about the wrestlers making history.
