Rey Mysterio to get similar WWE deal to Chris Jericho

There’s a chance Rey Mysterio makes his way back to the WWE in some capacity, and the Wrestling Observer News’s Dave Meltzer is reporting that  a deal akin to Chris Jericho’s is possible for Mysterio.

Rey Mysterio made his surprise return to the WWE earlier this year when he entered the 2018 Royal Rumble.  The high-flyer got a great reaction from the crowd leading many to hope he had permanently resigned with the WWE. Now, a nugget from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter hints that a deal might be possible.

The New Japan Pro Wrestling Problem

Meanwhile, Mysterio challenged New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Jushin ‘Thunder’ Liger to a match shortly afterwards. This obviously made the possibility of a WWE deal look less likely with the wrestler appearing for a rival promotion.

However, another Superstar has recently done something similar, wrestling for NJPW at the start of the year, and then appearing for WWE at their RAW 25th Anniversary show. That man is none other than Chris Jericho.

Rey Mysterio to get the ‘Chris Jericho’ deal

Chris Jericho made history by wrestling Kenny Omega at Wrestle Kingdom 12 and it was all to do with his great contract with the WWE. Jericho’s deal essentially enables him to pick and choose his own WWE schedule, making sporadic appearances for the company which allows him to focus on his non-WWE projects, like his rock band Fozzy.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter touched on this in its most recent edition, indicated that Rey Mysterio could be looking to sign with the WWE somewhere in 2019, with a similar deal to Jericho’s.

"Inside educated speculation is that Mysterio will sign some kind of a deal, maybe in 2019 if not this year. But it would be part-time. It’s possible he’d go to a term deal like Jericho where he’s with the company for a portion of time, and then has time off for his own projects or to work elsewhere."

Mysterio is a former Royal Rumble winner and world champion, as well as a shoe-in for the WWE Hall of Fame, so he would be a fantastic re-addition to the WWE roster. I definitely have my fingers crossed that a deal happens.
