Paul Heyman to Induct Bill Goldberg into WWE HOF

It was announced earlier today by the WWE that Paul Heyman will be inducting Bill Goldberg into the Hall of Fame. This is an interesting choice and an induction speech I can’t wait to listen to.

Just last year Paul Heyman was managing Brock Lesnar opposite of Goldberg at WrestleMania 33 in Orlando. This match was the culmination of a feud that has technically lasted for the better part of a decade. We were all shocked to see Goldberg come out of retirement to destroy “The Beast” in 1:26 with 2 Spears and a Jackhammer at Survivor Series 2016.

Goldberg defeated Kevin Owens for the Universal Championship shortly after to set up a title match between himself and Lesnar at WrestleMania. This was a rematch from their awful WrestleMania 20 bout where both men famously left the WWE right after.

The clash between Goldberg and Lesnar last year was the perfect “do-over”, as the contest was everything that the fans wanted back at ‘Mania 20. It was a fast-paced, hard hitting match that packed in all of the action we wanted to see in only a handful of minutes. Goldberg lost and was able to retire from in-ring competition on a high note. He was also able to be a “superhero” in front of his son.

For my money, Heyman is the greatest talker in pro wrestling history. There is nobody I’d personally rather have as an “advocate” myself.

What’s confusing about the choice to have Heyman induct Goldberg into the HOF is the fact that they were always portrayed as enemies on WWE TV. Heyman was a driving force on the microphone hyping up Lesnar during his program with Goldberg. But as we know, pro wrestling is all about one word, “respect”. You have to believe that Heyman has nothing but respect for Bill Goldberg.

Goldberg made a comeback to wrestling that nobody ever thought possible. He became the Universal Champion. He gave longtime fans such as myself memories that our childhood-selves still can’t believe actually happened.

Goldberg stood toe-to-toe with a former UFC Heavyweight Champion and brought out the best in Brock Lesnar.

We’ve been listening to Paul Heyman sing the praises of Lesnar for years and he does a masterful job of it. I can’t wait to hear him give Bill Goldberg the induction speech that he deserves.
